Rear window louvers.

RE: Rear window louvers.
I got mine from MRT and put them on last week. Living in Phoenix I had to go with the aluminium. I like the look of the satin black finish. A number of sites are selling them all for the same price but watch out for the shipping. Some of the sites will add as much as $145. In any event, they were easy to insstall and teh one piece design with the hinges make it easy to clean the back window.

The shipping is a killer. Knocks me out of the market actually.
And I think I'll be going with the aluminum at whatever point too. I like the look, but Wisconsin winters and ice storms can be as hard on vehicles as the heat.
Might be time to go to the local metal shop and have him fabricate something for me. How tough can it be?

I'm not sure how many companies make them, might only be one. They all look the same, marketed through different houses. I have some on back-order as delivery seems to be a problem. I will stick w/ the satin black. I also painted my wing and trunk inset panel flat black. Looks great. For those of you that have them, do they hinge upward for cleaning the window? Specs don';t say.

My wife ordered them for me for my birthday (51) through The Dream Car Factory (.com). I don't know the maker, but the photo was the same one shown many sites attached to a red 'stang. I still haven't received it, but the guy at TDCF contacted me and says they're discontinuing it but the mfr. will fill all current orders. I should receive it in about a week or so. He's still trying to find out whether it hinges or not. If not, that's a major problem. The other place I saw it was Classic Design Concepts, but I see they've discontinued it also.

I've since received them. Made by VISUS (www.visuslouvers.com). They look good, are very well made and yes, they are hinged. Worth the $$ in my book. Can get them from Dallas Mustang.

You have to be kidding about the metal shop. For a good shop to copy MRT louvers you're talking thousands not hundreds. Then you need to powder coat in satin black. Application and durability with "paint" is simply not the coating of choice for such a component.
Satin black; check out some 69 Mach's on EBay( no louvers in 67 and 68). They were plastic then, I'd go for top quality plastic to match the original if I could (and if was interested in doing this)

The original louvers from the 69-70 mustangs were aluminum. I know,I had a Cobra Jet Mach 1 that had a set on it. They were also painted satin black. The problem (IMO) with most of the new louvers is they are huge and bulbous. The original design of the louvers were short and and didn't set high.I guess what I'm trying to say is they weren't tall louvers. They had a single rib in the center and were hinged of course. They just looked geometrically correct. If someone would take an original set and reverse engineer them to fit our cars they would sell a ton of them.I mean copy all the details of the original ones.Maybe someone will.........
