I just saw this thread and was going to recommend them checking the smart moduale. Had mine replaced when they found the trunk light bulb was okay but it wasn't lighting up anyway. They replaced the smart moduale and now oddly I have running lights that I didnt' have before! Check and see if you have running lights now. If you have the parking brake on you won't see them turned on. Once that is released they come on. I'm the only 05 Mustang in the area with running lights! I found out too that the number on the moduale has changed, its not the same as the original. Even had my service manager checking and rechecking to see if it was the right part. I guess they updated it and changed the part number at the same time. Pretty sad a part like that has to be replaced to make a light bulb work! I wonder how expensive they are and how much they will be when the car is out of warrenty and another light bulb goes bad and its really the smart moduale???
Well i know most of the GEm modules and ECMs and such are pretty expensive parts. On average they cost 500.00 and up. They have to be pretty pricey if the dealer has to call the Ford Factory tech hotline to get approval to replace it. Another reason wh i purchased the ESP 7/100k Warranty

Well since i buy parts from this particular dealerhsip pretty often i decided to call my parts guy and ask him how much it was for the module. He told me my cost would have been over 400.00 which is about 20% off List/Over the counter pricing.
