Hi guys,
New owner, got a question. Someone told me the 4.6L in the 2006 GT holds 6.5 quarts of oil....Any thruth to this..Please let me know, man that alot of oil. Also mechanics that know, what's your opinion of oil change intervals with mobil 1? Heard it does not break down and has a 15K guarantee. Please give why you think your mileage interval is appropriate.

It holds 6Qts.

 

i would change at 1000 then every 3000 or 3 months...

thats just me...

 

Oil doesn't go bad.. it gets contaminated from the internal combustion engine.. best example.. look at your engine oil and look at your trans oil.. the trans oil is always going to be clean because all you do is shift gears.. nothing is exploding in there.. unlike your engine where that is all that it is doing .. having a controlled explosion every time you turn the key and it runs...

15K ON OIL... never.. see above .. the most I will go is 5K before a oil change..

JMO on the oil change but fact on the internal combustion engine ...!!!! a mechanic for over 20+ years.. had to give it up due to major back problems... but still have my Snap-On tools..

The sheet that Ford gives out to techs at dealers says fill with 6.5, 6 quarts in the fill, .5 in the filter -- so that is what I do.

I change every 3000 miles. The manual says change every 5000 miles, unless you live in an excessively dusty climate or, in essence, are hard on the engine ( stop and go ) then it says you should change every 3000 miles.

 

As everyone said, the 6.5 qaurts you're hearing about is factoring in the filter too. 6 - 6/12 qaurts is what it takes and Mobile 1 is great (I use it) but you shouldn't change your interval of oil changes no matyter what oil you use IMO. Personally I never go over 3K miles between changes.

Oh boy...another oil argument to start

The owner's manual for my '05 GT says 6qts.
Thats what I put in there,it takes over night though,to show right on the mark.
I always start it once after the fill up,to verify oil pressure,then let it sit overnight.

 

Mine has to sit a long time after I added 6qts for it to come up to full. It does come up to full though. I thought I was a 1/2 qt. low when I changed it and rechecked the manual. I can see where they tell Ford to put in 6 1/2 so they can show them (the customer) it's full and not to wait untill it's cold to check. Would save explaining. 6 - 6 1/2 Qt., either way I'm sure is fine. I am glad to learn that little tidbit, thanks..

 

For the Gt 6 1/2 gts with filter change is correct!!!!
Your owners manual says 6 gts BUt the Dealer
puts in 6 1/2 gts as per the Shop manual, this
was also verified by another owner in a previous
