"The Chevy Guys"
ORIGINAL: b_hollier
I own a 97 Vette and an 06 GT vert. I like the vette for racing and the mustang for cruising. The vette is a car that requires a lot of attention. The mustang is completely opposite. Your Chevy guy was lying about the 1/4 mile time as well, the ZO6 runs a 12.2 1/4. Not worth the 78k price tag that you would pay for one. I know this because my uncle has one. IMO you are paying for the name with a vette. IMO if it looks sport, is fast, fun, and turns heads I'll drive it. I am not really loyal to any car company. I know my next car I am getting next year is going to be a Lotus Exgie.

The new Z06 will actually run low 11s at around 125+ traps.
The one I drove and the ones I have seen at the track have been running around high 11's and low 12's. The one I drove ran pretty consitant at 12.2 a couple of passes at 11.7, the damn skip shift kept kicking in. That was completely stock.
Easy on the vette owner comment, I own one no ego about it. Just a nice fast car.

The vette and the mustang are two different cars; very much apples and oranges. For vette money, I would paya bit more and go for the Viper. Honestly the last decent looking vette was the C4. I really don't like the design lines on the C5 and C6.

How about this for a classic:
Hey Scaught, man, don't take all their nonsense to heart. These two guys you talked to are exactly like a bunch of the guys I work with. When you talk to a true Chevy diehard, you just as soon not even mention a Ford product.....they'll yammer on and on and on............s'like talkin to a brick wall. Personally, I take the fact that so many ppl are now comparing vettes to the new mustangs as a compliment. Such comparisons would have gotten you burned at the stake once upon a time. Corvettes are kickass machines, but they're not intended to compete with the Mustang. Chevy just doesn't have anything on the market right now that lines up evenly with the mustang....and some of the diehard bowtie guys are having trouble coping. But most ppl I know that drive Chevies aren't like that......so don't hate on all.
Them hardcore, ignorant Chevy Guys, the ones that bad mouth everything but their own, have some nerve. Especially since Chevy can only make one sweet ride, that being the 'Vette, of course. High in power, low weight and killer good looks..... but it's not a practical. They put all the effort into one can and ended up with over a dozen other models ranging from "so-so" to butt ugly. The Impala is where the Camry was 5 years ago, the trucks are out dated and cheap looking and the Monte Carlo is so ugly I'd get inside one just to not be able to see it. Cadilac line and the Corvette is barely keeping GM in business. I read that GM is so far in the red at the end of the year for the last few years, that if they keep it up, they will be out of business before the '09 Camaro gets a chance to bail them out. They need to drop the Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile lines and put more effort into the GMC and Chevy vehicles. As does Ford need to dump Mercury.
Almost every single Corvette I see on the road is driven by an old, short, bald guy (no offense intended...), and is riding in the right lane going about 54mph. What's the point? It may be fast, but it ain't ever actually going fast. And as for the Cobalt, it's FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!!!! Absolutely no fun to drive in my opinion. I learned that the hard way when I have a 2004 SVT Focus for about 6 months. Always shifting because 4's have NO torque. Front wheel drive just does not feel right to me. And 13.9, IF it actually does that, is about 6-7 car lengths behind a 13.2-13.4 car in the 1/4 mi. That's a big dif. A friend of mine just bought an SS Cobalt for about $24k. I bought my '06 GT Premium for invoice, which was $27,121. When he went or a ride with me the week I bought it, and told him what it cost, all he said was, "dude, I should'a bought one of these". That was all that needed to be said. kind of sums up the Vette argument too, because another friend who drives a '98 Vette said the same thing, adding that, "every time you guys put a couple hundred bucks into your Mustangs, they're faster - I CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR LESS THAN A GRAND. He's looking to trade his Vette in right now..... Do you blame him?
