Default Why are our V6s so under powered??

Heres another Jap. V6 pulling 340hp....
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/lexu...963/specs.html
not as mouch on torque though. But I'm still wondering why my mustang has one of the lower numbers in the V6 class...... for a 4.0 shouldint it be at least in the 260s? Eclipse 3.8 is at that. I love my car and for desing and looks it gets an A+++ but why has Ford so greatly limited its potential. It would be nice to have a stock car with some deacent numbers......

haha... why does a Japanese V6 have more power with less displacement? 'Cos the sky is blue.

My favorite is the GM 3.4 that makes a whopping 170hp. lol

If ford made a high performance V6 for the mustang (or any other car) it would cannibalize their V8 sales. historically japanese companies typically have not used V8's for high performance; they have gotten their power from technology rather than from displacement.

^^^ exactly... it's not that they CAN'T, it's that they WON'T...

Why build a high hp V6 when that will put it in the price and performance range of the GT?

Yep, the V6 is for the looks, the V8 is for the go juice. Both are nice vehicles, but that is just the way it is.

less we forget....unlike acura, nissan, infiniti and the like....in V6 domestic cars, we truly arent interested in paying 30 to 50 thousand dollars for them. agreed?

Us Americans, well at least this one loves the power/torque and sound of a V8. That is what sells. If Ford made the V6 put out close to 300hp everyone would expect the V8 to have lots more hp than it, and then they would have to spend the extra money doing so. That making the GT less disarable being less affordable. That is just my opinion.

The potential is probably the same if not better for the Ford 4.0
You're comparing a factory tuned v6 to a factory de-tuned v6...compare the compression ratios. You have torque...apply boost and laugh last.

Because our V6s don't cost $15thou a piece to make?

Because we realize a V8 sounds better and has more potential?

Because we realize revving to 10K does nothing to help the engine?

Because we like torque?

All these reasons, and more.
