Scosche vs MTX sub

Scosche vs MTX sub
This should probably be placed in A/V but I think it would get more people who know what I'm talking about here so here it goes.
I'd like to add a subwoofer to my vert with the shaker 500(I already replaced all 4 6x8's with infinitys). i know the only 2 custom fit ones readile available are the Scosche and the mtx thunderform.
I'm not that familiar with MTX so to those of you who know, are they a good company? Do they make a qualitproduct? I like the fact it has a built in amp. They are both about the same price when you consider adding an amp to the Scosche.
I like the fact that you can load any sub into the scosche box, but i really don't feel like putting a separate amp in my trunk b/c its small enough as it is.
If anyone has or has heard either of these I would appreciate your comments.
Thanks!

RE: Scosche vs MTX sub
I haven't been serious in the car audio "scene" in a couple of years, so this information may be a bit out of date, but:
"pre-loaded" subs, such as the MTX Thunderform, are mediocre quality. Are they better than stock? Probably. But they are nowhere near as good as a proper aftermarket system, even a "small" one.
Beware the Scosche unit. They might advertise it as "one size fits all", but the fact is that there is no such thing as a "universal" sub box. A box that is built specifically for a given sub is a MAJOR advantage. I'd put an inexpensive subwoofer in a properly made box against a very expensive sub stuck in a "universal box" any day of the week.
When you buy a product like these, you are basically buying a conveniently packaged product. You're getting a no-name amp and probably a fairly crappy sub as well.
My advice is to buy a proper subwoofer from a good brand. For example, JL is very well regarded, and even their lower-priced models are excellent if you're on a budget. Build a box to the exact specs published by the sub maker, or have a professional shop do it for you. Do not skimp on the box. It is more important than the speaker that you put in it. Combine that with a good amp, and you're set. You don't have to go crazy and buy an insane number or size of speaker. A properly designed box with even a single 10" will sound DAMN good.

RE: Scosche vs MTX sub
thanks Al,
I was told that the amp in the MTX was designed to work with that particular woofer and the boxes in both the MTX and scosce ere designed for their particular woofers.

RE: Scosche vs MTX sub
I would go with MTX before Scosche. MTX has been in the subwoofer game a lot longer.
Plus, the MTX appears to have a slightly larger internal volume, which given that the other specs are pretty equal means the MTX would play a little deeper and a little cleaner.
