Felt for tinted windows

Felt for tinted windows
Hey all, I had the same issues with my window tint being scratched... blah blah blah... you all know the story by now. Well, i just installed the felt (the felt-like part from velcro) this morning and plan on taking my stang into the window place sometime next week to re-tint. My question is, for those of you who used the soft side of the velcro sticky tape, how have your windows been? Is the new tint scratching at all? I just want to make sure it is going to be ok before i go spned money to re-tint. Thanks in advance.

Find a place that gives a lifetime warranty on the tint. I did and it didn't cost anymore than a non-warrantied job elsewhere. At least then if it scratches again you won't be paying for it.

RE: Felt for tinted windows
A few weeks back I put on an adhesive foam insulation strip from Armacell (used for pipe insulation) we had laying around the shop. Worked great....until the next day when the car was parked in the sun (Phoenix, AZ) ....the glue oozed out and spread all over the window when it went up and down. This stuff is rated for 185 degrees too. I would bet the adhesive on the velcro strips would do the same. I tried looking for the felt strips at the local craft shop and could only find 12" sheets. I didn't like the idea of having to piece it together, plus i can't cut straight. I also couldn't find any tint shops that had any clue as to what I was talking about in regards to this problem. I don't have a lot of time to drive all over town and find a solution. Anyway, I just bought this kit from www.automoleskin.com/ford.htm I plan on installing it tomorrow. It's the real deal and much softer than felt. i only hope the glue holds.

For what it's worth I pieced together strips from the 12" felt sheets from the craft stores...I used the red 3M tape from the auto parts store and just sliced the strips off using a long ruler and razor blade, it's not exactly "professional" job but I had to do something as the tint was already on (for the 2nd time) and I didn't have time to research other applications.
100+ degrees with close to 100% humidity here in Houston several times so far and no problem with the 3M tape or glue melting...works like a charm so far

RE: Felt for tinted windows - BAD
I read everything on this site about felt for my tint. I had my windows tinted about 2 months ago - everything was fine. I finally got my felt for the windows - 12" sheets from a craft store - 2 kinds / I used the softer of the 2 and cut it into strips. I put the felt on and within 2 days I had scratches on both windows. I drove around a little the day before with the windows down and the felt must have gotten dirt in it. The scratches are in a couple spots and looks like you cut the tint with a razor knife from top to bottom. At least it is not to noticable from the outside (yet). I ripped the felt out as soon as I saw the scratches. I'm gonna take my chances with the factory seal.

My tint shop also installed the felt at no charge. I have also seen this stuff which seems nice but i wonder about the fur coming out over time.
