Default Chipped Paint

The problem with driving fast is I'm getting chips and dings in the paint on my hood. What are people using to repair their paint?

color cure wax by turtle wax. In comes in different colors. If you use touch up on small chips it will look worse then before.

Unless you suck at applying it...........it won't I had on and you honeslty can't tell where it was. Listen don't get a pink bottle of touch up if you car is blue. It also depends on where the chipped paint is. You theory on touch up paint is most deffinatly not true. You must of had a bad experience or bought your touch up at Wal-Mart.

Or I got lucky with the only bottle of touch up paint in the world that matched almost perfectly.

The thickness of the paint is what I am talking about and maybe I do suck at applying it. I'm sure your mother is proud of you.[sm=smiley32.gif]

You are right. Touchup in the bottle from the dealer will look like *** when applied. (you don't have paint on the surface of your car) the color is well below and only clearcoat is on the surface; that solution was ok in the early 80's and prior but it's silly now. First of all if one is getting a lot of chips they are putting on a ton of miles and/or following too close. The more tire you can see on the vehicle in front of you the more likely something will kick up and you'll run into it. Stay back is #1, but trucks are the worse and even some cars; a 73 caddy sedan deville will be less likely to kick up anything; heck you can barely see the tires from behind. Get what I mean?

As far as repair, if you have lots of chips just get the car panels redone when you've had enough. For just a few chips there are some kits out there that allow you to essentially apply a base and clear such that it is smooth with the surface. Even if raised a bit from extra clear, before you get the car detailed, lighty wet sand the spot with #2500. The detailer will then buff to what will be barely noticeable, if at all.
