That's funny, I removed my "gas cap" thingy last week on my 2005 and there were no locator holes. Is this something just on the 2006 cars?
There are two locator holes on the front fender GT badges however.

The area has an odd shape, and to get it smooth and perfect again take A LOT of sanding and metal work. I know, I just did it.
