Radar detectors, Laser jam best BOLT ON PERFORMANCE mods you can buy? :)
For all who say they are worth it.... How many times have you been alerted, slowed down and then saw the squad you were alerted on?
Just curious, because although they DO work, there are ways to make them useless. "Instant on" radars for instance. I can have it on in passive mode and not a detector in the world will squeak, but when I see you flyin in, I hit it, see your speed, your detector alerts, you mess your drawers as you see why it alerted. Sucks but true.
Just sayin', they may be great, but I think you are better off playing it safe. 15mph over limit (the point at which I start writing tickets), say 70 mph, will only get you 20 miles 5 minutes faster than the speed limit, 55 in this case. 5 whole minutes?!
Hey, to each his own. I think all those who say how great they are should tell us about some saves they had though.

I could try and recount every one of the times the detector has warned me and
a. either stopped me before I gunned it/spun the tires/or otherwise raised a little "ruckus" (yes, enough to illicit a ticket).
or
b. gave me enough time to slow down to the speed limit before even SEEING the police car pulled over on the side of Beltway 8 with his/her radar gun on.
But that would be a long post and rather boring...suffice to say I don't own a radar detector company and in no way benefit from the sales of said radar detectors, so from my personal experience it has been worth the money and HAS done what it was made to do. Will it ALWAYS work...nope...that's why I also use common sense when driving and that doesn't cost a dime!

I don't have one but am buying one now, the only tickets I have ever gotten were from cruisers driving with the radar on, not just spotting people instantly. One time I was on a two lane road and the cop was right up against a tractor trailer and got be out of the rear when it was too late for me to slow down and another time a cop got me while driving the opposite direction from across a divided highway. I'm pretty confident had I had an even decent detector I would have avoided those tickets.

Yes. It is as simple as that yes, yes yes.....

But the bottome line is, EVERYONE I KNOW is late SOMETIMES.....at some point. It might even be a trafic jam near your house on a 30-60 mile drive to work with a new boss at the helm. Speeding helps make up the time and if it means the difference between you getting in trouble at work vs. not, I would choose to speed, 100MPH+ even. Thats where a good radar detector would come into play.

Yes this is true everyone is late once in awhile. Me personally it is very vary rare that i am late in fact i cannot recall the last time i was late for something. This is a HUGE pet peeve with me. There is simply no excuse for chronic lateness and it says a lot about a persons character. People that are always late have no respect or regard for anyone else's time and think they are the only ones that matter. I personally do not tolerate people being late for things. If you are meeting me for something and i tell you 5:00 you better be there at 5:00 or earlier or I leave without you. Now like i said sometimes things happen that are not in your control and in those cases a simple phone call stating hey i woke up late, there is a wreck or what ever it may be will go along way with me. It is all about RESPECT!
Stepping down off my stool now.

re: "I would choose to speed, 100MPH+ even"
When you wreck your car because you are driving 100+ to make it work on time, (again!), I am sure your radar detector will let you know that the cops are coming to extricate you from your wrecked car...
Drive smarter, not faster...
