erratic gas gauge readout

erratic gas gauge readout
I know others have had the gas gauge read way low when gas is not actually low.
Usually after a hard corner or maybe an aggresive stop.
Its getting annoying. 2 weeks ago at the road track I was on it was constantly beeping and low fuel display coming on.
You never really know how much gas is left until you let the car sit with the key on for 10 minutes or so when it decides to give the correct readout.
Anyone have this looked into at the dealer yet?

RE: erratic gas gauge readout
I just had my sending unit for that replaced. They did it under warranty. Haven't had the problem since, but only had it back a day and haven't gone under a half tank yet. Don't know if it's exactly the same, but I would have about a 1/4 tank left then suddenly my warning would say "0 miles to empty" then about 5 minutes later it would go back to normal. During this time, the guage would read empty as well. Would happen going down a straight street at 25 mph so no road/driving conditions were the problem.

I read in another forum (Maybe this one?) That the real culprit in this is that the gasoline in Michigan has a very high sulpher content , and it really screws with the gas gauge. It will take many tankfuls to clean it out , or maybe take the warranty route.

Mine does that too. Especially after fishtailing around corners...

Yes, happens to me everytime wish there was a fix. Haven't noticed it in right turns, but after a quick U-turn (normally left turn in the U.S.), the gas guage drops to Empty or close to it. Last time it happened, I had 3/4 tank of gas and it said "0 miles to E".

Mine did this too. I just had it fixed a couple months ago and haven't had a problem since. I don't know the part that was replaced or the TSB number for it but it is fixable. It has to do with a certain part that causes a sulfer build up and screws with the gauge reading correctly. Take it to the dealer and they will fix it under warranty.

My car does this too. I doubt it is a defect per se.
The way the car reads the fuel level is that there is a float in the gas tank. Anything that makes the gas slosh around (hard cornering or braking) will make the float move around...and that will mis-represent the actual level of gas in the tank.
Wait a few moments and the signal will once again be correct.
