Default RE: Vibration 67 - 73 MPH?

I just found this thread, and I have the exact same vibration. Mine started after the dealer replaced my ring and pinion several times and eventually the whole differential. They then re-phased the driveshaft, and it is much better, but not gone. My dealer says he thinks it now normal. I drove another one on the lot and it actually had the same vibration. However, in my opinion, they're both not normal, since my car was better than both of these cars before the gear repair. I suggested a new driveshaft, but the service manager said that until he drives a car that is better than mine, he doesn't think there's reason to do anything. He suggested that I "put some miles on it" and get back with him in about a month, at which point he will have hopefully driven one or two more to compare. I'm thinking at that point, no matter what he says, I'm gonna demand a new driveshaft, since it's the only thing left to do (he insists they spent "half a day" aligning the driveshaft and they can't do any better).

So, I'm just wondering if any of you who posted here were able to find a solution and what it was. Any advice would be appreciated.

richmod, I am almost in the EXACT same situation as you. I had my clutch packs replaced, in which they messed up the R&P. So they replaced the R&P, and I developed that vibration. Another dealership replaced the R&P again, with no success. After reading this thread, I suggested the DS, and they called Ford and they agreed. So they replaced the driveshaft. No change. I am currently waiting for the regional service guru to get his *** in gear on my problem (going on over 1 month now). I was gone for 1 month and didn't drive the car. Since I got back, I havent driven it at ~70mph (too slow LOL) much to test it out. I need to go out and try it to see, but from what I can tell it's still there. Arrg. This is very annoying and I have a Saleen SC waiting to go on after this damn warranty issue is taken care of. It's definitely a harmonic issue, as you cannot feel a vibration anywhere on the car (steering wheel, or any frame surface, as I tried feeling all around the car while it was doing it to see if I could feel a physical vibration), but you definitely "feel" it, kind of like a subwoofer. LMK if you come up with anything. I will also if I get anywhere.

racefiend,

We definitely need to keep in touch. I'm dropping the car off monday - the dealer has agreed to replace the driveshaft. No offense, but I hope I have a better result than you did! Either way, I'll let you know what happens. If the driveshaft doesn't work, than we can definitely help each other as the process to fix this vibration moves forward, particularly if/when Ford gets involved. Good luck.

When I'm between 67-73 MPH, I'm shifting into 3RD[sm=bounceybounce.gif][sm=gears.gif][sm=gears.gif] and myself and passengers, are so amazed, or "scared" that they feel "NO VIBRATION" whatsoever.[sm=wtf.gif][sm=dontgetit.gif]

Guys, I am also in the exact same boat!!!

Same noise/vibration etc and they just performed a TSB 05-20-2 for the rear axle noise. The car did not make this noise until after they performed the TSB. They think it is a drive shaft issue. I say BS because they don't mess with the Drive Shaft while fixing the gears and clutch. The noise comes in at 65 mph and quits at about 75 mph. It did not do this before the TSB 05-20-2 procedure.

I too had vibration but is started around 60mph, took to dealer and they check balance and it was OK then they check road force and I had two bad tires and had to have the other two re-indexed most. I did improve alot but still have a little one when first starting out in morning, dealers thinks it might be cold tires maybe. If not he will change other two tires.

I've had the TSB done 4 times. The vibration didn't start until after the 4th time. Thing is, on that 4th visit, they also replaced all rear bearings and clutch packs. To do that, you have to disconnect the driveshaft. In addition, the vibration persisted even after I got a whole new rear end. It also improved somewhat after they tried to re-phase the driveshaft. So, in my case at least, the only thing that hasn't been replaced is the driveshaft. It's either the driveshaft, or a set-up problem (pinion depth, etc).

I've got 10K miles on my car and no problems. Then again I don't race, do burnouts, or other stuff like that, which can ruin a car. I'd rather enjoy driving my car instead of watching TV and reading magazines at the dealership waiting for it to be repaired.

I have been hearing a vibration as well. I brought it into the dealer and they said "Thats just the way the car is." It is total bull****.
