My wife and I don't either. My wife has owned this 2006 Mustang GT since August of 2005 and it has 3750 miles on it. The problem exists. We are happy that you got a good one!

The noise that happens during SLOW speed turns did not start happening until the 3000 mile mark.

BTW, the Ford Technician that I did my test drive with told me the rearends are garbage. It's the vendor that Ford chose to use.

MORE News!!!!!!

I called my service guy and questioned him on Part numbers used on the gear change. I told him that the part number on my reciept corresponds to 3.55 gears as opposed to 3.31 gears. (I knew this since I had the TSB in my hand and the part number corresponded to the 3.55 gears. I also called Ford parts department and had them run the numbers.) He told me that they are not authorized to put in different gear ratios and asked me if I was sure that I had 3.31 gears. I told him that 3.31 gears were all that were available with an Automatic tranny. (At least back in June of 2005 when we ordered our 2006.) He told me that he would ask the TECH about it. I said great.

Well, he just called me back and said "You now have 3.55 gears now instead of 3.31 gears." The mechanic screwed up and installed the wrong gears. That's okay with me.

BUT, they are still working on fixing the noise coming from the rear. Waiting on a new drive shaft for now. Keep you guys posted.

If you have no vibration/noise before a gear change but you do after the gear change then it stands to reason that the problem is with the gears and/or bearings. When changing gears they usually just unhook the driveshaft at the rear end and leave it attached to the transmission. It's not necessary to take the driveshaft out completely. Since the driveshafts are marked as long as they line up the marks if the vibration/noise still persists then it can only be the gears/bearings that were changed. So, if it made no noise initially with all things being equal it should be possible to get it setup again to make no noise, unless the entire drivetrain is balanced as a unit at the factory. That is the driveshaft is balanced while attatched to the transmission and rear end, I find this unlikely. In that case once any part of the drivetrain is changed then the whole thing will be out of balance and will probably never be right again.

Just a thought.

ORIGINAL: Professor Wizard

It is.... perfectly normal for a factory car... it is Harmonics.

Factory drives trains, although "Balanced".. they re not truly balanced to a refined level like aftermarket or racing developed drive shafts. Same with the clutch and flywheels or factory torque converters.

So... you will pick up vibs at certain RPM's or speeds.

They won't hurt your car. they are just an annoyance!

They can be made to go away - - just pop for a high quality clutch, flywheel (or torque converter) and drive shaft .

Professor Wizard is as usuall right about this. I will ad that my 07 GT 5 speed manual did the very same thing at the exact speeds your having the vibes. I took it to my dealer, and had to get the shop forman to go with me in the car. He drove, and from the passneger seat " for the first time " I told him we were running 70 mph from the vibes. He felt it too, and confirmed I had a problem.

We went back and he looked on the computer, and told me there has been a few complaints about this, and in fact a lot of driveshafts were not balanced correctly from the factory. Ford had a new correctly balanced shaft to my dealer in two days.

Vibes are gone, and it cost nothing. Took 15 minutes to install. But I was told by more than one guy at Ford that the vibes would not hurt a thing. I just couldnt accept my new car having driveline vibrations and having 1.500 miles on it. It was enough to deal with the clunking in the drivetrain when shifting slowly or just normally.

I was told that too was a trait of the GT and I would learn to drive around it before long. Hard case that I am any more, I asked to drive another 07 GT to see if it was the same way, it was.

I did learn to drive around the clunks, and never hear it any more.

I've got 10K miles on my car and no problems. Then again I don't race, do burnouts, or other stuff like that, which can ruin a car. I'd rather enjoy driving my car instead of watching TV and reading magazines at the dealership waiting for it to be repaired.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do us all a HUGE FAVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get out of here!! You are the most disgusting creature I have ever seen on this site, you never have anything but contempt for practically every post and I frankly cant understand why you own a Mustang at all, if you do. I take great satisfaction though in knowing for sure your life has got to SUCK!

Live it someplace else.

Well, just got the call from my Ford service writer to tell me the new drive shaft didn't fix the Rear End noise. They are now going to try and end for end the drive shaft and see what happens.

Here's the rub. I know it isn't the drive shaft that is the problem AND the service writer knows it's not the problem. He knows that they will have to get back inside the rear and SET everything to the correct tolerance before this is over. Apparently though he has to let the mechanics do THEIR thing.

"I have been hearing a vibration as well. I brought it into the dealer and they said "Thats just the way the car is." It is total ****. "

I sympathize with you, first time I took mine it to bring up the driveshaft the tech in the car blamed my MRT muffler, needless to say I was pretty pissed. The same guy tried to say that the rattle in the door that was very audible was just the a/c compressor, convinced that hit was he turned it off and when it persisted he just flat out lied saying he no longer heard it. Ford service is the worst I've ever dealt with. That aside I finally found a dealer I love and have had no probelms with.

I have had the same problem since the car was new. First noticed it about 1200 miles. Proffessor Wizard is right, it is a harmonic vibration. But it is a sound vibration from the exhaust and you really notice it when the windows are up. The next time you hear it, downshift to fourth or take it out of overdrive and the sound is gone. Also with the window(s) down you don't hear it at all. My car now has over 41,000 miles on it and it has not fallen apart or broken anything as yet. But it is a little anoying, but hell it's a Mustang.

Mine doesn't go away on downshift, so we obviously have different vibrations.

"Harmonic Vibrations", yea right. Just keep saying that to yourself and finally you'll be convinced.
