Illegal window Tint

I want to know where all you guys are from that say there is a $10 ticket for tint. Where I'm at in Illinois, it is just like any other offense, $75 ticket PLUS they slash an "X" in your windows with a razor blade so you have to take it off and so any other officer knows you've been told once.

I have 20% ... but live in the city. Saint Louis City COPs have bigger fish to fry. As long as I don't drive like an ***.. they will not bother me. On another note.. when you take your car in for inspection.. roll the windows down. Side windows are not part of the inspection, and they have no business rolling them up. If your are worried.. just take out the fuse.
I read the replies of the others.
I'm in the SF Bay Area. Screaming Yellow GT. My initial reason for "tinting" was not really the "cool look" but an adversion to sun rot and heat through our big rear window, and the rest as a "balance". I was informed that all the tint levels deliver the same protection from ultraviolet light.
I ended up with the rear and quarter panel windows just shy of what the fellow said was "Limo" level cuase he said Limo level makes it difficult to see through in the dark of the night. Sometimes, not often, I wish I could see a little better through what I have in the dark of the night.
But not often enough to want to change it out.
My driver and passenger windows are tinted darker than California law, but not as dark as the rear windows. So far, so good, it has been about a year and a half with no tickets and no conversations with law enforcent, even when I've found myself in traffic with them as neighbors and my windows up.

I put the photometer on my front windows and they it said only 2% of the light gets in, on the rear I have 20% tint over the ford factory tint and on the front I got 32%. It is really dark but I did get a permit for them ^^.

First, you sound very immature and to cry about something so trivial in this day and age seems plain wrong.
Second, just ask the installer to tint it Cali legal and you won't have a thing to worry about if the place is legit.
Third, if you have eyes that are sensitive to bright light because of medical reasons you can have your tint as dark as you want and carry around a doctors note. Hell they might even have a sticker you can put on your rear window so you don't get pulled over every 5 minutes.
If they reinstate the draft and you get sent to Iraq, then you'll have something to complain about.
Fourth, you can always move to a state with less strict tint laws or none at all, if such a state exists.

Interesting idea and I'm sure it would work, but I don't want the hassle of being pulled over.

Ok Guys,
Here is what you need to do.
Make an appointment with your Doctor, tell him or her that you are concerned with the potential for Melanoma ( Skin Cancer ) and that you would like a prescription for dark tinted windows.
My mothers doctor actually recommended this to her years ago, and she has been pulled over MANY times, pulls out the scrip from the glovebox, shows the officer, and NO TICKET!
Now, I am married to a Doctor as well, My wife has written scrips for every vehicle we own, ( all have " Illegal " ) tint on them, I have been pulled over once, and she has been pulled over once as well. Both times, officers looked at the scrip, smiled, and said have a nice day.
Later,
John

I live in Fort Lauderdale, they don't ticket for tint regardless of the law, but I don't want the limo tint again, too hard to drive with at night, so I'm torn on 20% or 15%, any suggestions??? They do make an 18% but it's a different color. Any pics of redfires would be great!
I live in Florida too and have had 5% tint (Limo) on 4 vehicles now, and have never been pulled becouse of it. The times I have been pulled over I just put the windows down as soon as I realize he's after me. If I approach a light and will be near a cop I put down the windows. If they ever do give me a hard time about it, I'll just show them my FD badge and I should get out of it anyway, lol. I have never heard of anyone getting pulled for tint anywhere near my area though.
There is no such thing as legal tint in CA on the front side windows, unfortunately. If you have a precription from a Dr., the tint has to be temporary in nature. This means it will need to be one of the dumb looking roll up window shades. You cannot apply any colored tint to the front windows. You can however have a UV film applied that is clear and blocks all the bad stuff. It is pretty expensive.
If you have it on the back window, you need to have aside view mirror on each side.
Remember, all the windows on your vehicle besides the windshield are designed to break into tiny harmless pieces if you get into a side impact collision or a rollover. I have seen people with tint on their vehicles get cut very badly from windows that are broken in a collision. The tint holds these tiny small pieces of glass on the film and creates large flying pieces that have the potential to cut you up pretty good.
