Default Canned Tune vs Dyno Tune

I recently purchased a C&L intake and SCT II tuner with tunes from Brenspeed.

I am curious, is it worth it to get a custom dyno tune at a local shop? They are not cheap, so how much additional performance can I get from this? Does anyone here have any before/after comparisons of canned tunes vs dyno tunes? How many horses are to be gained?

It seems like you hear about occasionaly problems here and there from using canned tunes, so is a dyno tune the best way to minimize any problems and make sure you are running a safe tune that won't harm the engine?

Thanks, just need some input to justify the cost.

Default RE: Canned Tune vs Dyno Tune

There is a very reputable well known shop in my area that charges $100 an hour for dyno time, and $350 to custom tune the car. To me I don't tihnk it would be wise to have them dyno tune a NA car for an extra 5 HP or so over the canned tune. I know doug from bamachips will let you send him dyno sheets showing what his canned tune produced and then make modifications to the tune and send it to you. You might check and see if brenspeed will do something of that sort and you would be good to go.
