Best Single Performance Modification?

I'd like to keep my car basically stock, but wouldn't mind a few more ponies. I've done some searching on this forum and am not sure what direction to go. What is the best/cheapest/easiest single performance modification a guy can install on an 06 GT?

Your saying "Single" mod.
So, I vote FRPP rearend gears. 4:10's if your stick and 3:73's if your auto.
Then later go with the CAI and a performance tune.

The bad thing about just getting gears then you need to get a tune to correct the speedo.

If you are going to interpret the term "single" as strictly that, then gears don't count becasue they require a speedo adjustment...and that requires a tuner.
Practically speaking, I say CAI + tuner as the #1 mod. It will get you ~25 HP and you then have the tuner for use with future mods. You need the tuner if you change gears, tire sizes, or do various other mods that require tuning.
Gears will give you a better "Bang for your buck" I think, but I'd still consider the CAI+Tuner the first choice becasue you'll need the tuner before gears anyway.
LCAs are definatley a good choice too. If you run on the strip, then tires are really important. If not, I think the stock ones pretty good for the street.

Here is a good article from Mustang Monthy entitled "Best Mods for '05-'06 Mustang GT".

I'll vote for cold air intake and an SCT Tuner.
If I were short of cash, then I would buy the tuner right now and retune the car for 93 octane, then I'd get a cold air intake later. Impressive gains can be had from just a tune alone.
Look at this way, if you change gears you'll probably want to re-adjust the speedometer. The tuner will let you do that. Plus, if you do any serious type of engine modification, then you'll need a tuner for that, too.
I can't imagine anything easier. If you can read and plug things in, then you're good to go.

RE: Best Single Performance Modification?
Thanks for the insight. I am confused about CAI because I have read elsewhere on this forum that you only pick-up 3-4 HP with this mod. To get a 20+ HP increase, do you need the CAI and tune and premium gas?

RE: Best Single Performance Modification?
I put on the CAI and an SCT II tune, with an 89 tune. Amazing results. I also put in a Hurst short shifter that made a nice difference in the feel of the shifter.
The tune took away the "delay' from the "throttle by wire" system and made the car very responsive.
If I had to choose one thing it would be the CAI and the tuner. You can get them in a package deal.
Good luck,
John
