the t/c is there fer n0obs who are gonna take the car out in the rain and try to be stupid. in other words, its a "safety feature." a good way to do what your saying is just hire a midget to hang out in the passenger seat and when u start the car, disable the t/c.

seriously, it ain't worth it. just push the button. but if u must, a tuner will change this default setting.

If you look in your manuak

How does the actual traction control work anyways? Does it cut off fuel when it senses wheel spin or does it apply the brakes somehow?

The system operates by detecting and controlling wheel spin. The system borrows many of the electronic and mechanical elements already present in the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Wheel speed sensors allow excess rear wheel spin to be detected by the traction control portion of the ABS computer. Any excessive wheel spin is controlled by automatically applying and releasing the rear brakes in conjunction with engine torque reductions.

Straight out of the owners manual. I'm not going to push a button every time i get in the car. I'll disable it when I get a CAI/tuner.

Heh, I *AM* one of those newbs who needs traction control. This is not only my first Mustang, it's my first sports car. TC keeps me safe as I learn to drive the car properly.

OK, now at first blush this seems like a perfectly good solution, but actual matter of fact is that the midget - presumably weighing in between 10 and 80 lbs. - would trigger the 'passenger airbag disabled' idiot light. This is an unintended consequence and a reasonable person could conclude that disabling the traction control also disables the passenger airbag - simple cause and effect. Let's think these things thru before posting....

I leave it on in the rain, thats it. Every other time, it gets shut off. Sometimes in the morning I will forget if I am just driving softly to work and havent had coffee yet.

Other than that, my right foot is my traction control.
