Default 06 V6 + Cammer + 6 Speed > GT500?

Just (dangerous) idle thoughts.

Get a used 06 V6 for $16k, add a Cammer crate engine + an appropriate 6 speed as well as various suspension and exhaust upgrades and round that dollar figure to around $24k...would that get you the same or better performance for less than a Shelby GT500?

I'm not really a "car guy" (meaning I have no idea what it takes to do something like I mentioned above) but was curious to see what would be possible if I was to decide I wanted to get into the hot rod scene with something initially that's very affordable like the Mustang. I've always wanted to tinker with cars and would love to get into a project like this like I've wanted to since grade school. Besides, convincing the wife to let me get a nice convertible V6 Mustang (to share with her) would be easier than convincing her that I need a $45k muscle car.

If you can get a GT500 for $45k, please PM me the details and I will buy one... they are going for $10k+ over MSRP right now...

So go buy an 06 GT Vert, put the 2.6 KB blower on it with all the supporting mods and you will equal or exceed the GT500 numbers for less money...

Yeah what he said!!!!!! GT vert and a KB.

(Oh I did that already....)

The Ford cammer engine is 14,995 dollars. You could build a monster modular motor for way less than that price.
V6 Mustang is not a good platform for popping a v-8 in. You would need to change a lot of suspension etc.
Buy a GT and mod it not a V6

What's a good option for a naturally aspirated engine that is capable of putting out 400-500 hp without a lot of effort?

You could always check junk yards for a Ford Lighting and pull the motor out, then do all the work to a V6.

Or but a Ford GT. Strip the motor and trans out of it, and put them into the Mustang body.

Then for fun put the 4.0L Mustang motor and trans in the Ford GT [:'(]

Speed is just a question of money.

Plus, once you get all that straight line speed, you may want to turn from time to time, or stop, so you will have to do some work on suspension and brakes.

Rygen has run a 13 flat with his turbo'd V6. He's still fine-tuning it, but high 12's are no doubt in his future. He's a good driver and I suspect that should he come up against a bad driver in a Shelby (say, your average doctor or lawyer in his new weekend toy) I have a feeling that said Shelby owner might end up with a severely bruised ego

OK, this is going to sound really cheesy but after I took my kids to see Cars, I realized that I want a muscle car of my own (not necessarily a race car) that sounds just like Lightning McQueen. That's the exhaust note I would like to aim for. I understand that suspension will be a necessary evil so that it will handle well and the money (in the hypothetical question above) for that has already been allotted in the dollar amounts being thrown around. This car doesn't have to be the fastest at the drag or the best handling, just has to have the sound and the muscle to back most of it up. [:-]

You are so ignorant. The GT and V6 have the same exact suspension parts except for a sway bar. Whats wrong with a V6 anyway?
