Default RE: installed 4.10s...

i was posting some questions in the v6 threads titled "gears" q's and a's i got from them... but they have 94-04 stangs.

the 3.73's get better gas mileage than the 4.10's
the 4.10 will run no more than .200 faster in the 1/4 mile, but it takes longer to hook the tires.
the 3.73's are better for daily driving, and the 4.10's are about just as good as the 3.73's at the track.

but what i did not get answered, wouldn't the 3.73's give better top end? the car already has okay takeoff, (not like my old WRX though...) the 3.73's help with that, but dont go over board like the 4.10's do.

am i on the right track or am i all sorts of screwed up...

(i just won ford racing 3.73's low mileage, (no chips or anything) on ebay for 37.00 + 19.00 shipping = $56.00!!)

what diff did you get with your 4.10's? i am looking for a good one for my 06...everyone is saying a truetrac from detroit, but i dont have $500. and i plan on the procharger at 36,001 miles on the odo...how would a t-lok do??

P.S. mine is stick, V6, w/ 18x8.5 fronts 18x 9.5 rears nitto nt555 extreme zr, steeda drop in, and magnaflow exhaust... procharger in about 3 years, but steeda cold air&tune in a few months. if this has any factor.

alright this may be an idiotic question... but do you need to get an installiation kit when you swap out the gears? a place in tampa (rev-extreme) quoted me $ 300 all supplies included... i do not know if that includes a new install kit.

how hard is it to put these in? i read a web site that went into EXPLICIT detail on how hard and time consuming this is.

anyone have good/bad experienced w/ rev extreme? (please PM or EMAIL so no public bashing) i am used to my WRX and i did 90% of everything, but i never dived into gears...

I gotta say it, WTF?? The 4.10 won't do better than .200, when did this rule get written? The 4.10's are about just as good as 3.73's at the track? How are 4.10's just about as good, but over-board at the same time?

4.10's CAN make a better than .200 difference but it's not just the gear that can make this difference. As for top end the 4.10's can actually net you more on total top end because you'll actually be able to use 5th gear, and get there quicker.

What you guys smokin in the V6 section??

Not an idiotic question at all. If you buy FFRP gears they come with shims but you'll need a pinion gear as well. If they quoted you $300.00 total with gear all supplies included I would ask if this could be including a pinion gear, it sounds kind of low. Also, most important, whos gear is it?

its top speed, top end is HP in the upper RPM section, dont bother, the people with no gear experience **** all over our experince with gears

if i had any S-197s id put 4.10s in any combo, except for GT 5 speeds which would get 4.30s due to a tall 5th gear
