Default installed 4.10s...

Just had my 4.10s installed today. i dont know, but i think they are overrated. Total for gears and install was 550 dollars. The acceleration is noticably better, but its not THAT much better. somone who didnt drive the car everyday wouldnt be able to tell. All in all im a little dissapointed. People on here rave about them, so maybe my expectations were too high. The good news however is that there is no whine whatsoever, and it feels really smooth. i was a little worried as i used Motive gear, and people said they whine. These however have no different sound or feel than stock. it is nice to have the extra torque on the freeway and during accel I just dont know if it was worth 550. The shop also said they put in some fancy tranny fluid, cant remember the name...blue something maybe. I dont know.

The higher the gear, the more difference you'll be able to notice. When I race my friends stock Stangs, I pull on them less in 1st and 2nd, but I pull much harder on them in 3rd and 4th.

Don't get on them early and often.Break them in for atleast 100 miles or so.You have to let them heat up and cool to harden.I agree with you I'm a little disapointed in my 4.10's as well wish I went with 3.73's.I lost 2 mpg freeway and city. And the differance is not all that noticable.

I've had it recommended that I get my gears later after I've had some time driving around on my car AFTER the power adder gets put on, to get a handle for the power difference. Does a car's tune relate to gearing at all? Because I've seen very few people running 3.90's and I've had it recommended that people should go two steps up in gear if they're going to bother (3.55 stock to 3.90's instead of my originally intended 3.73 swap). Just curious

I gotta ask folks, what do people expect, turbo like acceleration?? 4.10 gears only help get the car moving quicker, they aren't and shouldn't be considered a huge performance enhancer, having said that you should get a couple of tenths minimum, which is about what you get with a CAI for the same amount of money if you got a tuner as well. Perspective is key, buy the gear because you know that along with a CAI and tuner you're going to whoop on the poor sucker who has a stocker and decides to give you a try.

When you go to the track, that's where you'll see how big going to a 4.10 is over going with a 3.73 or staying with the 3.55's (3.31 for you 07 boys and girls who didn't get the 3.55's), at least you should if you don't, time to get a new driver mod.

Wait until you get your tuner so you can adjust the computer more for the new gears, then I bet you'll really notice a difference.

It is starting to get a little better, now that they are breaking in. The car defenetly picks up more, but not a huge amount. I guess i was expecting more. But I suppose unless you get a supercharger its not going to be night and day. The motive gears are great though. No whine at all.

How it "feels" doesn't really mean much of anything. What you need to do is a baseline test (0-60 time, 1/4 mile time and trap speed) before you make your change, weather it be gears or anything else, make your change and test again, prefferably at roughly the same temperature and altitude and then you will know for sure how much of an improvement there really is.
