I was at Union Grove Dragaway last night, while going through Tech the guy asks to see my helmet, I guess he's bored so I show it to him. He begins a long lecture about how I need a new helmet, how could I drive such a fancy schmancy car and have such an old helmet?
I responded my 13.4 second Mustang won't wreck a whole lot worse than the guy running 13.99 with no helmet, I would be the one better off. Heck my helmet has passed tech for 25 years, plus it passed this guy 2 weeks ago!

It's funny how he rode my *** but they let people run with no helmet at all, and usually the ones running without a helmet are the very people with less experience, be it slower car or not, kids with 13.99 cars or slower had to wear helmets years ago, but today they don't.

He had no response for that... Hypocrisy can be a funny thing.

Oh, the car ran 13.43@104.95 last night.

If in fact you are telling the truth that your helmet is 25 years old, the TECH man is correct.

On another note, newer helmets are more aerodynamic than the old ones and you might shave a few more tenths off of your time!!

Helmets are only legal for 2 specs after the spec of the helmet. As an example an SA00 helmet will be good after the SA05 and SA10 specs come out but when the SA15 spec comes out the helmet will be outdated. Currently anything SA95 or newer is legal but in 2010 the SA95's will be too old.

Edit: In case you couldn't tell new helmet specs come out every 5 years. So pay attention to what you are buying. New helmets can be bought cheap, I recently picked up a brand new full-face SA00 for $65 shipped on eBay, so it's good until the SA15 spec comes out, $65 for 9 years is a pretty good deal IMO.
