RUSTY BRAKES!
I have an '06 V6 with less then 2500 miles on it and the brakes are starting to rust already. Is this normal? Will it eventually go away? The Ford dealer told me that its normal, but after spending 24k on a car and having it rusting already is upsetting. I had some surface rust on the actual disc when I first took delivery but that quickly wore off. But the rust on the inside on the disc is getting worse. I attached a pic of the rust. Thanks for any info you guys can provide me.

Mine is doing the same thing. Wait until your silver calipers discolor and get all splotchy. That really looks wonderful. Had others tell me to paint them myself. I plan to do that some day, but that strip of rust on the rotor is annoying with these see thru wheels! [:@]

Exactly! ...if the dealer will replace them great but the same thing will happen again. It's not a defect, that's what bare steel does when it's gets wet. If the dealer will replace them do this. Buy VHT HiTemp manifold/exhaust spray paint in dark cast aluminum grey and a spray can of brake cleaner. When you get home, remove the wheel, spray the brake cleaner on everything you intend to paint; it evaporates right off; mask off the cut surface of the rotor (where the pads contact it; don't want to pick up paint on the pads) I recommend masking and painting the calipers in the same VHT paint (the bright colors look like *** too quickly; with this paint they always look the same.) ...anyway you will prevent the rusting for quite a long time, depending on driving conditions, climate, etc. If these rotors are like the Ford Taurus you'll be buying new ones in a couple years anyway. ...let's hope not.
If you don't get new ones, well you could pull these rotors, grind off or sand blast off the rust and then paint and put back on. ...yeah, the driveshaft and rearend need to be done to. Rediculous... throwing bare steel out there just asking mother nature to "come rust me". ...stupid.
I need to do mine now too but you can see the calipers; paint on them is 7mos old.

Mine get rusty quick after a wash or a rain... but the rust goes away just as quickly once the brakes are used a bit in dry driving conditions. If the rust stays after the brakes are used a bit in dry driving..... that may be an issue?

He's not talking about the pad contact area. What he has (and we all do) will just get worse and worse unless you take action.

Yeah... you're right, I just looked at my own to compare with the posted pic. I have about 7,500 miles on my '06 (had it 3 months and yes... I drive a lot! lol).... but I have no rust in that same part as shown. I would take that back for replacement and then, if necessary, do the preventative maintenance. It must be made of a slightly different alloy or something? Mine has no rust on it at all where the pic shows that rust. I would be displeased for sure.
