Maybe they did change something. I just took a close look at my 06 and they are ok with a sort of silver finish. The bit of rust I had seen on mine in on the rotor surface just outside the inner circle of the pad contact area. ...not thick rust, looks like a scuff pad might even take care of it. Thanks for the input!

The rotor "hats" are inconsistently finished on most american cars...i think they get them from multiple vendors.

If the rust on the hats bothers you, then sand em and paint em (you'll need to remove the calipers, if not the rotors, in order to do it right)

thanks for all the advice. Im going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what can be done. As far as paint, you dont recommend the brighter colors? I was considering painting my calipers blue, but not if its going to look like crap after a short while. BTW AWSOME paint job fairlane292!!

ty, hey try the blue calipers. With the VHT spray it's just so easy too with a little masking; bigger job to do full color job. Just seems that every colored caliper I see on tuners and everything else is dirty looking, kind of expected with a bright color and the brake dust that is going to land there and be heat treated a bit as well. Just not for me but don't let my opinion hold you back.

6x, I don't see why the calipers need to be pulled away or rotors removed unless he wants to do the back side. ...which I can't imagine anyone doing. With the wheel off the rusted edge is in plain view and easily accesible for sanding, filing or drill mounted wire wheel or other method. I agree it would be easier using a bench grinder wire wheel if you pull the rotors. If you pull the calipers back you'd pull the rotors anyway cause they're gonna just come right off then.

Hey Fairlane, long time no see, what ever happened to you selling your car? O and have you had any experience with the duplicolor kit?

Hey, no didn't sell. Had an offer for 30k but I have more than that into it (obviously) never mind my labor; plus my chances for a Shelby pretty much went away; so I'm happy to hold on to her; still only 700mi but have been out a lot the last week or so. Anyway, no, don't know anything about duplicolor on calipers. I would think a brush-on heat resistant color done on calipers that have been pulled away from the rotors would work the best for the "bright color" option. With the VHT spray I mentioned here you just mask around as best you can and spray what you can easily get to. I didn't like the bright silver of the calipers so I did this the night I brought the car home from the dealer; along with rear lowering coils. I also sprayed the back of the mufflers in the same VHT dark grey so they are less noticeable from the rear. Then at least I could sleep that night (lol).

Well its cool you got to keep your car, I would never have been able to sell it lol, looks way too sweet. Thats cool, I still have to decide on a color for my calipers so Im not set on a brand yet.. and the color of the calipers depend on the color of the rims I get.. which depend on the color of the paint I get lol.. which depends on how much its going to cost. So yeah its not necessarily at the top of the list yet lol.. [8D] O but in other news.. my aggressive chin spoiler gets installed next monday!

Yeah, gee lots of dependencies you have there (lol). Sounds good with the agressive going on. Fit is generally quite good on these. One caution, I had issue as a few folks did with the base of lower opening warping. I spoke with CDC (mine did and if it happens I have a fix for ya) but they said they have not heard of the problem but it could be cause by baking (which the shops often do), I guess there is info in the install directions about baking temps but I didn't see it. I would suggest no baking for this reason. It doesn't help anything but get the parts out of the shop quicker. See if you can go w/o baking; these paints and clearcoat cure on their own fine. Baking isn't going to get you a more durable finish over air dry, but you may end up dealing with a wavy lower panel. (didn't notice this till a month after paint work)
