Pioneer 7800MP head unit installed with iPod adapter ...
I bought the entire setup from Crutchfield for $350 shipped .... that included the Head Unit, iPod Controller and all the wiring adapters and install kit. I soldered all the connections to the Crutchfield harness the other day at my kitchen table. I also installed the 5V regulator on the subwoofer power feed as recommended on this board (thanks to whoever that was.)
I had delayed the install because I thought it was gonna be a pain in th azz ... but today was overcast and a little cooler in my driveway to be working in the car. Well .. I had the old radio out in about 10 minutes .... the Crutchfield directions are top notch. Also ... since I had pre-wired everything the Crutchfield harness plugged right into the car. I used the power off the power plug in the center console to power the iPod controller which is also used the charge the iPod. I would say the entire install took about 30 minutes and I am very pleased. The amount of settings on this head unit is unbelievable and it sounds great. The 64,000 color display looks awesome. I was expecting slow response times from the iPod as I had read elsewhere on the internet ... but it seemed plenty fast to me ... Here are some pictures ...

Where did you install the 5 volt regulator? Where did you buy it and what is it's function? Does it stop the large pop when you turn on/off the radio?

Yes ... it stops the POP when you turn on the radio .... You can get it at Radio Shack for like $2 ... it gets soldered to the AUX power feed to drop the 12V coming from the stereo down to 5V ...
It is a model 7805 and looks like this ...

I have been going back and forth between the pioneer model you have and the Sony CDX-GT705DX. Both have things I like but i think i will end up with the Sony.
Plus points of the Sony is cheaper $279 (pioneer 319)
Signal to Noice ratio is better at 120DB (pioneer is 100DB)
13 band EQ
2 year warrenty.
Plus points for pioneer
Color display (not a big thing for me)
5v Preamp outputs (sony is at 4V)
From past experience i have found that the sony's radioi volume is lower then the cd volume. With my last pioneer i could adjust it to even it out, so i would assume they have it on the newer ones too.
I will probaly end up with the Sony, but who knows, i am also really into the HD radio's, but they are still not big enough of a selection. Yours looks nice, does it have the fuction where the radio station and the song from the radio station is displayed? i like that function on our stock radio's.

No ... I could find no setting to display the Radio Station info ... kinda sucks. Yes ... you can adjust the FM vs. Aux sound to keep them at the same level.
