Stock subs Shaker 500
Anyone know the rms and peak power of the stock shaker 500 subs? Also any other specs would be useful in my search to replace them... also has anyone else done this? If so, what did you replace them with, and how hard was it? Thanks.

They are not easy to replace becasue the OEM subs are a very strange arrangement. They are a non-standard ohm rating (5, I think) and they are dual voice coil. Your chance of finding something compatible is about zero. (Do a forum search, this has been gone over before, and I can't remember exactly what the specs are--I just remember they are oddball)
If you are OK with ignoring the factory amp and you will be getting your own, then you can install a more standard sub. However, now you have yet another problem: you have to hope that your new sub's T/S parameters are a good match for the door enclosure that you've already got. Even a very high quality sub will sound like crap in the wrong sized enclosure.
My advice: don't even TRY to match the door subs. I seriously doubt it can be done well, at least until someone bothers to make a special sub that is specifically designed for this application.
Instead, put a proper sub box in the trunk with a more appropriate size sub, like 10's or 12's. If you want to do something interesting with the doors, I'd put a 6" component midrange in the spot where the factory door subs are, and then put a nice tweeter in the location of the factory 5x8 plate.

are you planning on replacing the amps as well? From what i understand they are 2 ohm speakers, and as you can put 4 ohm speakers in there it will not be as loud as the originals.
I have found only one that will fit in the doors, you have a very small mounting depth, i think like 2-3/4 or less. But if you replace them you are more then likly need to just replace everything, not to mention you will never get as much base as if you were to use a sub box in the trunk.
I would just say buy a sub box for the back, i know a guy on ebay that will be releasing one any day now custom fit for our mustangs. This is his box for the 2004 and below, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW
he told me on 8/19/06 he would have ones for the 2005-2007 in roughly two to three weeks.

Thanks guys, thats enough info for now I guess, I figured hell its been 2 years soemone has to have a replacement speaker by now but I guess its not in that high of a demand. I realized I was going to get better bass if I did a trunk unit and planned on doing it anyways, but planned on replacing everything... like they say, your team is only as good as your weakest player. Thanks alot for the help.
