To change the fluid, you'll need one of these adaptors:

http://www.gohtsn.com/article_146.shtml

And a pump. Drain the pan by removing the big drain plug. Drain and replace. Use an Allen/Torq bit to remove the inner "nut" in the drain plug. Screw this fitting in (above). Pump about the same amount of fluid in as you drained out. Keep the hose and fitting attached. Start the car and let it idle for 5 to 10 minutes. Feel the transmission pan (it should be warm to the touch). Let the expanding fluid overflow through the attached fitting and tube until you just get alittle flow out. Turn the car off. Let the tranny fluid cool (and contract - lowing the level alittle). Remove the fitting and hose, and replace the plug. You're done!!

If you are confident that the amount of fluid already in the tranny is the right amount, just drain the pan and add the exact same amount. Don't worry about warming/cooling the fluid while watching level.

Do also know that the tranny pan has a real nice rubber, reuseable gasket, if you even want to change the filter. I wonder though if it just has a screen and no real filter?

Also check out this DIY for more info:

The diffy fluid change will solve the problem 90% of the time. Add one bottle of friction modifier, the success rate increases.

Changing the fluid in an automatic is easy once you have the technique and special fitting. I have posted the procedure and link to the fill fitting here. Search the forum.
Thanks, Ill give it a whirl but the search engine doesnt work 80% of the time, so if I come back clawing my eyes out, asking for help dont be upset.

Royal Purple says you do not need to add the modifier, it is allready in their fluid... I did not add any additional...

Yeah, the special tool is called a WRENCH! As he described, remove the cover on the rear of the axle to drain the fluid. After drained and cleaned out, replace the cover using a generous bead of automotive silicone gasket sealer and then fill the axle with synthetic axle lube and don't forget the friction modifier.

It's not rocket science.

Good luck.

You know after seeing the condition of the transmission and diff fluids in our cars after just as little as 2,500 miles I highly recommend that everyone change them on their cars before hitting 5k miles...

Why would you want to avoid the TSB repair? My car is in the shop right now getting the clutchpack replaced. I guess I just don't understand why you wouldn't want the updated part from Ford.

I will tell you that the last thing you want is having a tech at a Ford dealership opening up anything on your car unless it is a last resort... Just because it says Ford in big letters on the front of the building does not mean the guys in the back turning wrenches know what they are doing...

After building I don't know how many 8.8 rear ends you think even Ford would have ther s*** together...

And from day one it sounded like a lube problem, no need to take the clutches out and risk the problems associated or worse have the dealership damage my car...

That is why...

For the diff: Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W-90/75W140 one of the two I forget, just check in the owners manual... (You need three 1 quart bottles, will use about 2.5...)
For the manual transmission: You have two choices, Synchromax or Max ATF, they are both good, Synchromax is a little more expensive... (You will need four 1 quart bottles, will use a little over 3 of them...)

I put Max ATF in at 2500 in the transmission and will replace at 10K with Synchromax and leave that in till about 25k and then replace with Synchromax again along with the diff fluid...

Change oil and filter every 2500 miles with Mobil 1 Oil and filter...
