Is he the one building the cars? No. So he doesn't have to know anything about them. He knows about quality control, engines in general, and how to lift a company from a downward spiral.

To give an idea just how good he was to Boeing. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...ngheads05.html

I don't care if he never even drove a car before. If he can do half for Ford what he did for Boeing then that will be one hell of an achievement. Because obviously the yes-men in the board room currently aren't doing a good job.

He was the lead engineer for the 777 and pushed the 787. He was named by Business Week magazine as one of the nation's top executives for 2005. I have a gut feeling he's pretty qualified. If you think he can't handle a damn car engine after engineering a machine that defies gravity then I'm sorry.

?????? Since when does Farmer John decide how much to sell Dodger Dogs at Dodger Stadium? If this new CEO can start the healing process faster than expected then we'll(all Ford buyers) have exciting new products to choose from in the future. Yes people will lose jobs(as they say, "You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs") and that's very unfortunate. Besides "car guys" are too passionate(and rightfully so) about product, this new CEO will make sure everyone stays the course. Every pro boxer has a manager, but they also have a trainer too....this new CEO isn't a trainer, he's a manager...what's in the best "business" interest for Ford to remain competitive and still make Mustangs for the foreseeable future.

Just wonderful, they are losing their *****. So they spend $20 million bux, for 1 person to solve the problem ? Makes no sense.
The guy's 61 yo
What the hell does this have to do with ANYTHING? If you start saying he could die or this or that you are even more of an idiot than I was aware of.

As usual we get to hear torch blabber like an idiot.
20 mill is not much... I don't see what you are getting at.
I guess they should ask YOU what to do and where to put money?
P.S if you knew ANYTHING about business you would know that all it takes very often is ONE person to to turn a business around.
Are you familiar with the story on Harley Davidson, or many others where one man has made ALL the difference and his ideas have completely changed a company?
A good leader can make ALL the difference in a company. So don't go judging a decsion someone makes if you know absolutely nothing about them.. or the subject at hand.

AS a "newbie", I guess I gotta be respectful, to folks like "iluvmycar" (with hundreds of posts, must be a big shot)

I have no idea how to do quotes, and posts, but,.... "iluvmycar" seems to be quite the authority @ MF, and for some reason, likes to attack my posts.

I mean no harm, and so far......... I've enjoyed MF.

Do you ppl have rules for IDIOTS like "iluvmycar" ? Just curious,...... if not, I would never "lower myself" to the way he/she behaves. (WELL, maybe I could)

Just wondering, how well the "rules" are enforced, based on what I checked off on. To join this "Community of MUSTANG LOVERS" and, ******** like "iluvmycar"

I read that today in the San Francisco Chronicle and the plan calls for 30,000 job cuts and up to 14 plant closures (allthough its not finalized,it is inevitable). This is a sad era for the blue collar workers in this country. Lets just hope when Ford gets back to profitability they will reopen plants here and not farm out overseas...

I may be FOS, but, how do ya cut 30,000 jobs, and still build the same amount of cars ? and,... with less plants ? Not, knockin' you, you are just reporting the facts.

But, it's like walkin' into the OUTBACK, and cookin' ur own steak. Whatever, the case, we need to KEEP those jobs, at a liveable wage, and at $20 million, plus bonus, ANYONE can eliminate ppl, and lower overheads. Maybe, somewehere down the line, this will work.

Cutting and slashing overheads, only goes so far.
Now, here we go,,,,,,,
Based on the popularity,........... '07 base 6 cyl MUSTANGS should be mid 20's, and GT's should be low 30's for a Deluxe Coupe Base. These are toys, that ppl will pay for, and have gobbled up, since FORD went retro in 05.

I feel daily "drivers" make up about 10% of the new "MUSTANG NATION",.......... and 90% make up the rest. Fact is, at $25K over sticker, for a SHELBY, proves the point. Put the dough in Company profits, not dealers !

Of course, WTF do I know ? other than, as long as FORD builds vehicles, there will always be 1/2/3 in my DW

I think those job cuts wont just be workers on the factory floor. It will be a combination of administrative positions, positions in management, and yes of course ppl on the assembly line. The article did'nt get to indepth but plants could also be part plants as well. In a company so large as Ford there is always some dead weight (specificly in management) that they can eliminate.

What is hurting Ford is poor product options, too many trucks and SUVs at a time when they are not selling as well and high labor cost thanks to the UAW...

+1

GM is not imune to this either.
Ford cannot just rely on the F-150 and the Mustang. They need a good sedan to go up against Camry , Accord and to a lesser extent Maxima and Impala. The Ford 500 has'nt really caught on yet and the Taurus is a Joke. I'm sensing another late 70's debacle all over again for US automakers. Remember when Corollas and B-210's where kicking LTD's, Cordoba's, and Caprices *** in sales. I guess its happening again , but this time its heavy trucks and SUV's...............
