Welp... I was and of course broke the retainer clip. I replaced the filter, and the new fits quite snug without any signs of backing out of the clip.
No leaks either.

Out of curiosity did you leave yours broken or go ahead and replace the retainer clips some how?

I replace mine frequently since the gas here is so bad. Don't even use a screwdriver, just push it in with fingers. One thing though, take out the fuel pump relay and crank the engine to relieve pressure unless you want a nice gas bath.

Take out your fuel filter fuse (google to find out which),
then try to start your car a few times. It'll drain some of the fuel out of the line.
Jack up the drivers side and use a wrench to get the plastic case down out of your way.
Get a cup or something to drain the little fuel you'll get into.

I used my fingers to push the green clips and release the filter. No biggy.
Then make sure the filter is facing the right way, slip the hoses on,
bam good to go.
Uhh, no. You pull either the fuel pump relay (as flash_xx stated) or fuse, then start the car and let it die, Crank it once more, THEN remove the filter. Unless it's been sitting overnight then it's fine as-is. Either method relieves the fuel pressure.

If you simply crank the car over after you've pulled the filter you'll simple send fuel spraying from the gas tank as the Fuel pump is in the tank.

I saw this write-up and checked my records and found at 77.4k I was 2k past my last needed time having changed my fuel filter last a 60.1k.

So, I have already done my filter a few times, but, I read the posting here, and looked at the youtube show. Just wanted to say they say use a 10mm socket. Its just a little easier to use a 10mm deep socket I bought not too long ago to adjust the emergency brake. Two of the fasteners are on fairly long studs. FWIW
