I know none of them are perfect, but i need something damnit, the way i drive and the ammount of police around here i'm destined to be pulled over sometime soon, and i might as well have some protection vs. none.

Any reccomendations? i have heard the best are the valentines and escorts but i dont have $500 to blow on a radar... whats something good and affordable?

The Valentine is the best radar detector out there, but they are very expensive. I have and use the BEL 980. I love it. It's a few years old but it still works great AND has saved me many, many times!

Obey the traffic laws. How much do you have to blow on tickets and higher insurance premiums? If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime. Cops have ways of defeating radar/lazer detectors.

Just bought one of these^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Have not used it yet, but it was highly ranked in various tests--higher than Valentine. There are two along with Valentine that are regularly cited as teh best. Search the internet for motor trend's radar laser test comparison rankings, and you'll see some good i nfo

I would have bought the 995 as well if I didn't already have a V1 to upgrade for $200. That's the only thing that keeps me loyal to the V1. Every 4-5 years I can upgrade to the latest and greatest for $200 intead of buying a completely different one for more.

I have the escort 7500 radar/laser detector. It's more than a few years old and still works like a charm.

Here in CT the detector helps with cops on the street, but not so much with the ones in the air. I think I'm the only person I know in this state that has gotten a ticket from an air cop. They do it from a plane, and using a physics equation, they get your speed based on how many white hashes on the highway you go past in a period of time. Also, they are allowed to pace you here in CT, meaning they can guestimate your speed based on theirs, and it does hold up in court...I have a few friends with those...and they don't use radar/laser for that.
