I would buy one but I heard on the news that the police want to switch to a different kind of radar detector so making older radar detectors useless.

I know none of them are perfect, but i need something damnit, the way i drive and the ammount of police around here i'm destined to be pulled over sometime soon, and i might as well have some protection vs. none.

Any reccomendations? i have heard the best are the valentines and escorts but i dont have $500 to blow on a radar... whats something good and affordable?

Just bought one of these^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Have not used it yet, but it was highly ranked in various tests--higher than Valentine. There are two along with Valentine that are regularly cited as teh best. Search the internet for motor trend's radar laser test comparison rankings, and you'll see some good i nfo
Gotta agree with them 100%! I have the Vector 995, and I did alot of research online first, it was rated by a few tests above the Valentine ones, so I went with it.. definately worth the money! Hasnt failed me yet, and it has alot of features etc.

I had a very hard time deciding, but I finally opted to go with the Bel Pro RX65 and love it so far. Click this link and you'll be able to review them all for yourself. Good luck in your quest. It's NOT an easy decision.

That's the model I have and I have tried just about all of them.
BEL and Escort are actually the same company now, which a lot of people don't know.
Between the RX-65 and the Escort X50 I found the Bel more sensetive on all bands, but the Escort had a wee bit
better false alarm rejection.
I sold the X50 and am very happy with my Rx-65 and I drive a LOT of miles each year.

As for obeying the speed limit, yes that's the way to go but when you miss the 30mph sign hidden behind the tree it helps if you know what's up ahead waiting for you.

BTW if your the only car on the road, nothing is going to save you from instant on unless the cop is trigger happy.
Also nothing will save you from laser, but the RX-65 does pick up scattered beams reasonably well.
