Take your car on the interstate for no less than 1000 miles and then it'll be broke in. Once you leave home, you can't come back until you crack 1000 miles. Take some food and gas money.

And to TinPony.....GO Mark Martin!

TinPony, you should know that the manual isnt necessarily the bible......... If it was - it would have all the answers and none of us would be on this forum. Doesn't the owners manual say that they do not require a break-in period?

TheNewMustangOwner - you could potentially receive hundreds of opinions on the "proper" way to break in your new ride. However, the bottom line is, dont always drive it with the pedal on the floor - make sure that you properly maintain it, MECHANICALLY (oils, filters, etc) If you take care of her - you can also abuse her from time to time. These things are pretty damn tough!! Dont be scared to drive her hard from time to time.

Personally, my car doesn't even have a 100 miles on it - so in some opinions, mine isn't even broken-in either. Some people take their cars back to the dealer after 1000 miles to ensure everything sealed properly - probably not necessary. A good idea, maybe? But that's your call.

If it starts and runs, it is basically broken in. The engines are tested and redlined at the factory. Don't drive it like you stole it, but, don't be afraid to get on it either. Vary your RPM, if you are cruising the interstate. Check your oil after 200 mi. Don't baby it, these machines were built for performance, so, let it perform.
