Leather shift knob
I have an 07 GT. The metal shift **** is burning hot in summer and now it's getting cold in fall. I want a leather one. Only one I've found is by Razo. Looks cool but what else is out there? Thanks.

The Mustang has a stock shifter shaft that is threaded in metric threads. Many if most aftermarket ***** are made to be a "universal mount" with set screws.
Thus, if you really focus on what you like - the **** you think really looks best - most likely it will be a universal mount ****.
The answer - in my view is this - you need to have an adapter made to be an intermediary component between the stock shifter shaft and the aftermarket ****. Let me quickly point out that I did not come up with this idea; I read about it concerning other non-Mustang vehicles.
Essentially you have an aluminum cylinder machined that will thread on the stock shaft. It should be made in outer circumference to accomodate the aftermarket ****. And then when the aftermarket **** is set up upon it - the set screws sink into a precision fit. And the result is not some sloppy setup.
At first glance, this all seems funky; complicated; and expensive. It is none of the above. More than a few members of this forum have offered to make me the cylinder referred to above. The cost is somewhere +/- $100 in a rough range. Thus for the cost of an aftermarket **** - $75 to $125 at list price - plus the cylinder - you are looking at $200 +/- for the shifter **** of your dreams. It seems pretty cheap to me given the fact that it is a component of the vehicle that you will experience firsthand each and every time you drive it.
In my case, I did all of this and puchased red/black shifter **** (a Grant product) before I took vehicle delivery. But in all candor, I have an 07 with the PTP and I like the feel of the stock ****. I just have not gotten around to it yet.
Below is a photo of the type of cylinder I am referring to.

And to all our machine shop members out there - if you have a lathe - you should run a batch of 25 of these cylinders or so, and sell them. It would be a win-win for everybody.
My 07 came with a metal shift ****. Probably part of an interior upgrade option (I have the leather dash, etc). In the summer sun, it got BURNING HOT. Now it's getting cold. I want leather.
Interesting idea about the adapter. I read this post about "sleeves" for fitting the **** to various shifters. Sounds like you might be right: http://www.mx5.net/products/swknobs/razo.html
