Very well written letter! Also, you may want to change "mustang forum" too. If the guy at the magazine is not already a member, and has not already seen this entire thread, then he will look it up.

If he has already seen this thread, or is reading it now -- then he needs to do the right thing. They used your pic without permission.

You mean I should actually put mustangforums.com in the latter or exclude that and instead just put "forum" or something else?

Dude, congratulations on getting your car published. No offense to the other posters here, but I think you are getting some bad advice. I don’t think you should expect to get compensated. I think all this advice of lawyers and compensation is total bull ****. It’s really sad. It looks to me like a typical “Letters to the Editor†section. You wrote them and asked if your car could be placed in the mag. They obliged. If you didn’t ask for anything up front, I think it is very very nervy to try to ask for it now. We are all Mustang enthusiasts, and most all of us would love to be in your place, with no expectation for compensation. I think it would be downright tacky to email them now with a bunch of quasi legal mumbo jumbo. Just give them your mailing address and ask for a copy of the mag. And wear it like a badge of honor. Don’t turn a good experience into a bad experience. Just my 2 cents.

Peace Jack

I agree I think you should have maybe asked for a free issue or two but no compensation. As stated above it is a write in section that the picture was posted on.

I agree with you guys, but if I say that i'm not in it for the money and this turns into something bigger, and could potentially be worth allot of money, then I don't want people getting the idea that my photo's are just easy to get and they are free, I just used "compensation" as a way of sending my message. Anyways I did prctiacally beg for it to be printed, and all I really want is an issue of the magazine. But to be honest they could have done a better job, because if it wasn't for Blackie I would have never know that my picture even got published. WIth that being said you guys have no idea how happy I am, unfortunately I will have to get an even better picture than this one once I get my own stang', because the dad is too happy right now lol, but his happiness turns into my happiness when i'm driving the stang' and he lets me open her up from time to time.

I think you did a fine job with the letter you wrote. You dont want them to think they can just use your picture without permission, thats not right. YES you did ask for it to be printed but if they never gave you a confirmation that it would be then thats wrong and they should have known that. If it were a professional photographer that was serious about his material and he offered his picture and they printed it without permission they could be looking at a hefty lawsuit. I wouldnt be worried about getting much money - if any - I would just want them to justify that they printed your picture. Make sure they printed your name under the picture, and gave you credit for it. The word compensation in your letter could be anything from a subscription, or cash or whatever. Now Ive never had a picture published but I wouldnt think it out of the ordinary for them to send you a complimentary copy of the issue you were printed in..
