For 500 extra bucks at the factory, the stock 4.6 V8 could get new 4-valve heads, dual overhead cams and an easy 400 hp. I'd love to see it too!!

I smoked a GTO the other day and have spanked several LS1's. I wasn't TOTALY happy with the power of my car so I did something about it. (see sig) now I'm saving for that Vortech SC. Maybe next year.

I gotta say that jlpskydive is right here. Notice the nice little Zex 100 shot in the sig. You can get a $25K Mustang and add a $700 Zex hit, and rape a GTO all day (or at least until your bottle is empty). So, here's some quick math. $25,700 badass looking car vs. a $33,000 turd. You pick.

Why is the mustang so under powered compared to the new GTO and the new Camaro? Why does ford not step it up a couple notches? A GTO whipped my butt tonight. Is this what we have to look forward to?
First, the Camaro is vaporware.

Second, you are driving a 27K car with 300 hp, that is very close 0-60, 1/4, times to a 400 hp 35K car.

Ford could put a lot more power in there, and require a lot more money for their product.

If you got you "butt whipped", either the GTO was modded, or the Mustang had.................

Spend a few dollars on CAI, tune, LCA, etc. way before you spend the 8K sticker difference your Mustang will be quicker than the GTO.

I just read today Chevy is plan on building in 08 or 09. A new Stingray Vette with 650 hp. $$$$$ well over $50,000. For 26K you get a great looking car.
That does the 1/4 miles in Mid 13 sec's stock. You want to beat a 35K Goat spend a few bucks on mods. Plus our Stangs are a way way bettter looking. Than that ugly GM thing will ever be.

mustang is a best bang for the buck car.

i look at the mustang as a tuner platform, its not really that fast stock(compared to other sports car) but it has ENORMOUS potential, with a few mods it can be a 12 second car.

or even with the newer suspension and chassis, its a much better handling car then previous generations, i think ford should focus on making the car lighter instead of giving it more power... having it ligher will increase so many things...

fuel economy, acceleration, handling etc.

The mustang is a lot different than most cars because theres so much out there to modify it and so much you can do..... the gto 33k i got my mustang gt for 29k so for 4k i could def. make it a lot quicker than the gto .... you think with 4k you can get up to atleast 340 rwhp

I don't disagree regarding most of the above comments, but I will point out that almosty ANY mod will not help resale value, and will in fact hurt it in many cases. A stock hot rod will retain it's full book value much better than a modded one.

So even though the a car costs more, the resale should remain higher so it is not necessarily money out the window. Yes of course the more you spend the more you will lose, but in most cases a $33K car will resell for more in 3 years than a $27K car (yes, of course, the GTO is ugly and may not hold it's value, but in general the above is true).

6xStang makes a good point. However, in my area, the GTO does not seem to hold it's value as well as a GT Mustang due to its unpopularity. They still sell for quite a bit, but the price difference between new and used tends to be larger for the GTO. That may be different across the country, but that is the trend that I have seen.
