Default window sweepers

I am about to get my windows tinted and the guy on the phone tells me that the "sweepers" in late model (2005-2006) mustangs need to be replaced or they will scratch the tint. He went on to say that small scratches would become visible very quickly and that I would be much better off having him replace them for $50.

Does anyone have an opinion/experience with this?
Does anyone have tinted windows with the stock sweepers and if so, did they scratch the tint??

Thanks

PXDIG~

The guy is right on that. I didn't do it the first time around thinking that he was full it and well I got the scratches in all of 2 times that I lowered my windows. I ended up getting my windows redone and that piece placed in. The scratches wont be visable from the outside but it does look horrible on the inside. Get the piece replaced... I think it's worth it for 50 bucks considering it cost more to get it replaced

I asked him the same question. That is the term he used for the felt ? that guides the window on both sides. Essentially, when the window is rolled down, the soft fabric, felt like material that "pinches" the window. Think of the window rolled down, your arm on the door, on the slot were the glass goes up and down, those two long strips of soft material are the "sweepers".

The tint guy must be a member of the forums or he has replaced many mustang's tints. There is tons on this subject on the forums. Recommend you do a quick search...you will find all kinds of info. Bottomline: You need to install felt or moleskin to prevent it from being scratched.

Right, yeah those "sweepers" as he calls them can be covered with a product called moleskin. Hes very correct on that if you dont do something that the windows will scratch. I didnt do it before tinting because my tinter said it wasnt necessary and there wasnt any products out at the time that I tinted but for sure Ill be doing something once I retint. Heres a link to the moleskin if youd rather have him install this than replace the whole "sweeper". Good luck. Moleskin
