Default line locks / brakestands

all -

if i were to do a brakestand in my 2006 gt, what would be the best way to do it? does the parking brake lock just the front tires, just the rear tires, or all 4? and should i dump the clutch in 2nd or rev it up in 1st to get the wheels going and shift to 2nd? or should i just get line locks? any detailed step by step instructions would be appreciated...my car is bone stock btw, and a 5spd.

how sad is it that i'm 25 and have never done one of these? i figure i want to do it at least once in my life just for fun.

foot on the clutch and on brake. let out clutch while on brake, move right foot off of brake while moving left foot too brake, right foot goes on gas and nail it while keeping the brake pressed down hard. you'll lock the fronts but the backs will be spinning.

if your fast you could heel-toe it.

Well, IMO, the best way to do it is to NOT to do it unless you have line locks. Doing a brakestand doesn't do your back brakes any favors.

^^^what he said^^^
Brakestands, power braking, whatever you want to call it, it is hell on the brakes. More so on the rotors.
If you just want to do them, follow what 07AlloyGT said. But be forewarned. You better get good at it quick or the smell you smell won't be your tires burning, it will be the clutch.

If you want to just do it occasionally, do it like that. If you actually have a need to do it ( meaning you are going to be taking the car to the track frequently ) invest in line locks.

and i'm going to +100 on what the previous 2 guys said. it's freaking hell on the back breaks.

do it when you're mechanically ready to do it. i mean, you could always just rev up to 3000 and dump the clutch. you'll smoke the tires for sure in first if you keep the gas down.

If you are going to do it a lot then I would get linelocks. Without linelocks you'll need to start in first i'm sure and some water wouldn't hurt to get you started. I shift to second with my linelocks and it's a weird feeling to shift and still here the tires squealing.

I put my own linelock kit together, but if I could do it again i'd get the GMS kit for $199, a monkey could install this kit it's so simple.

You'll need to copy and paste the above and then remove the space.

That didn't work, copy and paste the link and change the zero to the letter O.
