Default old school trick

Has anybody tried the old trick of dropping in a K&N air filter and drilling holes in the airbox? Yes, this is problably dumb. I'm just trying to get some more juice until after Christmas so I can finally spend some money on me. Will this still throw on the engine light because of the added air? Any help would be great.

Drilling holes to gain an undetectable amount of anything seems rather silly to me.

Drilling holes in the airbox will do nothing but let in more hot air which you do not want. The air box already has a hloe on the engine side for this purpose. And a drop in K&N will yield negligable gains for the price. The positive to the K&N is it's reusability.

JMO of course, but why would you drill holes in the factory box? What if you took it in for service and the dealer saw this, I can here it now......engine warranty void! I say if you want a K&N, just save the money and buy the complete kit, once again JMO!

I learned a pretty nifty trick today watching the Racheal Ray show: If you store your seran wrap in the freezer, it doesn't stick to itself when you try to use it and breaks it off easily too!

Just make sure you put it back when you're done.

But at what cost to the engine. It seems this would make the car run lean which is very bad for the engine.

Not a "BAD" idea, but......... you still need to "match it", with a tune, because you have changed the A / F Mixture. These engines are "fussy", if you will.
The K&N Drop In will get you by, without a "tune",.............. But, messsing with that airbox ?
You are asking for trouble, without a "tune". and most performance enhancers, would only be "guessing" as to the "tune" needed.
If it's any help, I thought about this myself, and decided against it.
IMHO

The food network!!!!

I respect that i catch emeril every now and then just for the entertainment ,,,, and that big woman from savannah with the husband that works on a boat or whatever..

But back to the subject i have the k and n drop in for the money it has some minor gains but im adding a cai this xmas prob wouldnt be a good idea to drill holes if you going with a cai soon ..... just wait for your cai . i wouldnt mess with it incase you ever wanted to sell it and wanted to keep your cai for some reason then youd b screwed tryin to put it back to stock,

I dont know about you guys but i keep all the stock parts ..... ill prob just keep them in the garage for about 40 years then find someone who is restoring a 2006 mustang then ill make a ton of money off it ,,,just thinking ahead
