Yes it will help, but its better just to replace the headunit and all the speakers. From what Ive seen, the headunit replacement is by far the best as far as upgrading the clarity, sound, and volume of the stock system. The Shaker is a good stock HU, but thats exactly what it is, stock... Nothing beats aftermarket.

I would get the headunit first since it will be the most audible improvement. Get the headunit now and then just play music normally, dont blast it, and you shouldnt blow out the stock speakers. The speakers arent like.. really crappy or anything, theyre just not aftermarket lol. Like I said, the Shaker system is really good for stock and will satisfy most everyones sound needs (except of course us audiophiles).

Get the head unit first! Then get new speakers and new amps as there are many problems with them not shutting off after you turn the car off! Doesn't happen to all but it can be of concern!

First i replaced the HU with a Kenwood Excelon deck i had in my last Stang. With all the EQ options it really made the stock speakers sound good. Not great but good. Then i replaced that with a DVD unit. The sound is still pretty good. Especially when playing a DVD-Audio disc. I would agree with everyone else and replace the HU first. The front speakers are decent but not as clean as an aftermarket component set. The rears are cheap pieces of crap found in any other factory system.

I haven't replaced the speakers yet but i'm going to soon. Is anyone using a component set? If so, what size speakers are you using and where did you mount the tweeters?

Anyone with a DVD system have a center channel? If so, what did you use for that? Where/how did you mount it?

Replace all the speakers first. It won't make it louder, but should give better clarity to the music. If the sound still isn't to your liking, replace the head unit. I would recommend Infinity speakers and Alpine radio.

Definately speakers first. The sound comes from the speakers not the HU. +1 on the Infinitys, I put the Reference components in the front and coaxials in the deck with the Basslink powered sub in the trunk, AWESOME. A nice HU with lots of options is icing on the cake. I have the JVC KD-AVX2 multimedia. Really cool but tricky install to get a nice look.
