Default A question about breaking in a new Engine.

As the owner manual pointed out in another thread, to avoid driving at the same speed continuously. But what if I vary the rpm a bit during the 300-mile trip? ie. changing between 4th gear and 5th gear every 5 to 10 minutes? Would that help?

Yeah... just do what it says... dont stay at the same rpm for too long. I dont think you need to do it every 5 - 10 mins though, that seems kinda overboard. I would say every 20 - 30 should be fine...

I used to just turn off overdrive for a little while (little button on right of shifter for autos).

Hmm... no it's not. It's not broken in until at least 500 to 1000 miles.

I always read "drive it like you stole it", thats what I've done with every car I've owned, mine has just 600 miles and already changed the oil. Valvoline 5W20 is what I've found, plan to change it back again @ 2000miles with 5W20 and 5W30 motul 8100 Ford specs afterwards.
