Default Performance Chip???

Hello,
I am new to the group. I hope that someone can help me with any info available. I found on the internet a +25HP Performance Chip that you can get through importracingtrd, for very little money. And I mean very little money. They claim that it is approved not to void your warranty. It is as easy to plug in, and can be done so in just minutes. You actually pay more for the shipping than the part. I am not a mechanic by trade and so I do not have the background needed to make judgement calls on such items. I will give you the internet site so you can see exactly what I am talking about.

Is this a hoax? Help please.

Thanks,
Casper

Do not buy. Do not buy. Do not buy! Those are not performance "chips", it is what's called a resistor that you can buy at a radioshack for less than a buck in a fancy package. It plugs into your Intake Air Temperature Sensor and tricks the computer into thinking the air coming in is colder than what it actually is, thereby richening the air to fuel ratio. It's mostly pointless, good for guaranteed decrease in gas mileage and usually about 1 horse, if that. Because the computer usually notices the condition and overrides it. I bought one with intentions of testing it on a dyno to actually see what the diff was but I lost the hookup with the dyno shop...so its been sitting in my toolbox gathering dust. Lol. Point is, do not buy it! Put that money into a air filter or an oil change or some new plugs or maybe towards a real power programmer from SCT or Diablo.

Surprisingly enough the guy actually tells you what it is...amazing, that is a first. Still, they have a tendency to trigger the check engine light as well. Just thought I would add that. Not to mention it requires cutting wires to splice it in to you air intake AIT Sensor. Just thought I would add that!

Thanks Guys,
I do appreciate the help and info. It did sound funny. Like I said, I am not a mechanic by trade, so I thought it best to ask the experienced pro's. Thanks again,

Casper

That's almost as good as the "Electric Turbo kits" that I've seen.

Guys would get a little duct fan, stick it into a piece of PVC pipe, and say, "Here's an electric turbo that will give you 7 PSI of boost!"

Most people ended up with a lighter pocketbook, instead of that elusive 7 PSI...
