Default Paint on '07

Why does my paint feel so rough. Other cars I have purchased feel REALLY smooth and soft to the touch. The paint on my Mustang feels rather rough. Is this because it's metallic? Does it need a serious wax job? Am I paranoid?

Is this common for a brand new car? Could it get that dirty from sitting on a lot?

I just washed it, and tried some wax....it seems feel a little better but still rough. Is there anything I shouldn't do or use on a new car? I heard that paint takes like two years to fully cure. I really don't want to screw up my paint job.

Any other thoughts? Should I start to get worried?

One word: Clay. Have you tried to clay your car? Assuming that is not a paint defect, claying your car will leave the paint smoooooth. There's lots on this topic on the detailing forum.

Clay will work wonders. Unless they did a bad job in paint, you may have an orange peel effect. I would wash the car with dawn then clay it, then wash it again with a soft car wash and re wax it again. The paint used on cars today does not take years or months to cure. It is good to go when you get it, you prob just have debris in the clear coat from shipping and sitting on the lot.

Is the "clay" something I can get at a local parts store like AutoZone or PepBoys? To be honest, I have never heard of it. I'm new to this stuff.

Yes either one will have it. Just ask for a clay bar. They should know what you are talking about. Mothers makes a good one.
