Default auto trans. bezel

On the auto transmission bezel there is a small insert on the right hand side. Anyone know what this is covering or why it is there?

in my manual, it says the insert to the right is for the Brake-shift interlock. It prevents the gearshift lever from being moved from park when the ignition is in the ON position unless the brake pedal is depressed.

Funny how you found that information out by reading your Owners Manual.
