Default gear changing instructions

how does the internals of this new rear end compare to the old 9", have any of you done your own gear change, do you know any site with download? I have done the 9" sets in my camaro several times, but would like something to look at before i just tear into it.

The old 9" was a pumpkin style that could be removed from the housing and worked on a bench top. The 8.8 Ford is more like a 10" GM style. Check out the Ford Racing website. I believe they have tech info that can be downloaded. I also ran accross info from vendors on e-bay that sell gear sets. They have multi-page documents you can download from thier websites that will give step by step gear setup info. Hope that helps. I did'nt try to do mine. I took it to a shop so i could get a decent warranty.

Pay a shop with experience in doing the install. It will be worth the money for the install and ask for a warranty against whine from the gears. They should not whine and if so take it back. Many threads on this just do a search and if you do the install yourself than make sure to get the kit that gets used with it. I think it is a packing kit for the bearings! Not an expert but read all the threads

i enjoy the doing it part much more than the having it part, so i'll definitely do it myself. I have done 9" models probably 20 times, besides, in most cases i care more about doing the job right than a "professional"
