CRASHED!
Hell, half the time I don't even trust MYSELF to drive my car
(no, not because of booze or dope- but because of a serious condition I have that's sometimes refered to as "Lead Foot Syndrome").
I used to think that LFS was pretty rare, but after reading many posts on this forum, I've come to the conclusion that it must really be HIGHLY CONTAGEOUS.........

I have only ever let one person drive mine and that was my brother he got it up to 120 and I have some trust because I've been in cars he's driven and he knows better than to risk losing control
I think its a family trait me my brother and my dad have all gotten cars to over 100
my dad even got a stock geo metro to 101 according to the GPS
and my brother got an explorer sport to 120
and none of us have had a high speed wreck
the decision of to let drive or not to let drive depends on what they drive normally

First did you have your friend file the claim under his insurance, he was driving and he should have insurance for his ricer. Since he was driving it you should be able to have him file the claim.
Next.. When I am in MY car and someone else is driving they know that they listen to what I say or not only will they be walking the rest of the way but they will get slapped upside the head. If he did not listen to you the first time you told him to chill, he should never have made it to the point where he wrecked your car. You should have told him to pull over the second he ignored you.

Moral of the story: don't let your friend drive your car. Last night i was out with some friends and one of them asked to drive my car, and I said sure, as long as you drive it in the parking lot for a while first. He did fine in the parking lot and he had just driven my friend's RX-8 and did fine. Well, i was in the car with him and he asked if he could take it on the street. I said yeah and he took it out, the streets were empty. He started getting pretty fast, but when he was shifting, numerous times he didnt put it all the way in so he kept bringing it to redline. I told him he should slow down and asked him if he was okay, but he just kept going. Well, he took it through a 90 defree turn going 80, lost control, skidded left, then right which spun us 180 degrees around, up a curb, hitting my front left fender on a pole. By then we were only going 10 mph or so, and I didnt even think we would hit it. I was in shock, and he started freaking out. Im just glad no one got hurt; the airbags didnt even go off. Surprisingly, the only thing i care about is that he pay for it and that I wont be able to drive it for a week or so. The damage was just estimated at about 3000, and insurance is going to cover it. Next week is going to be terrible without the stang. I guess he couldnt handle the power, he drives a prelude...

Sorry to hear about that. I'd never ever let anyone drive my stang. Sometimes I feel bad for a brief second as they beg but then I think of how much I've spent and it gets much easier. I just tell them if they want, they can sit in the passenger's seat.

I am so sorry about your ride! Glad no one was hurt. I'd have beat the hell outta that "friend" though. I have a hard enough time letting my husband drive my Mustang. My friends know better than to ask. Not gonna happen.
