07's slower than 06's

RE: 07's slower than 06's
07GT- It'll take me awhile (not long) to get the info. But, I'm pressed for time at the moment. You can research it on your own. But, basically it's all about weight vs mass, and how it affects acceleration. The'07's are 106# heavier, or 2.86% heavier. Given equal HP, and torque, the heavier the object the slower it will go. This has also been proven with the coupe vs the vert, as the vert is heavier, not by much, and it doesn't take much.
Now, take a14.0 qtr mile ET, about average for the MUSTANG and an average driver, add 2.86% to that, the ET is now 14.4
I know, I'll get alot of disbelievers out of this, and maybe the #'s are off some, but, the FACT remains, the heavier object will be slower, when everything else is equal...... and 106# is darn near 3% more weight in the '07.... vs 05's and 06's.

Did you get this weight from weighing the car yourself? I'm curious because everything I've read shows that the '05s (and I assume 06's) weigh 3560 - 3575. I can't see how your '07 is 100 lbs lighter than that. Of course, there will be some variances depending on how much gas is in the car and whether or not you have the Shaker 1k or not.

Care to tell us where you read about this? My 07 weighs 3436 lbs, stock, and it's not stripped. 3 to 5 tenths would be a lot of weight difference. More info please.

My car had4 gallons of gas in it. Bottom line, I don't believe the 07's are any heavier.

LegallyTorched... not saying that you're wrong by any means, but the 2.86% doesn't exactly work for both weight and time. It would take closer to 400lbs. to add .4 sec to a 1/4 mile time, not 106. Think of this scenario... 2 identical cars, identical control factors (temp, track, lane, launch, etc.) and the same driver. 2 bags of 50lb. quik-dry cement in the trunk of one of the cars is not going to make it run .5 second slower than its identical counterpart. Just think of all those cars out there with tons of audio equipment in them. Also, if the 07 GTs share the same chassis with the GT500, how are they only 1XX lbs. heavier, while the GT500 is nearly 600 lbs.? Bigger motor and cast-iron block?

Another example is an online 1/4 mile calculator. Now I know that these things are debateable as far as real numbers go because of driver, temp., elevation, etc. but they are reliable when comparing as they use the same calculations and ratios to determine their answer. I put the GT500's weight (3920) and HP (500) in and got 12.3 sec. In the Feb. issue of MM & FF, they got their stock GT500 to run a 12.38. So its safe to say that the calculator is fairly accurate. When the '06 claimed weight of 3483 is plugged in and 300 hp is plugged in, it yields a 14.0. A little slow, IMO, but probably whan an average driver can get. When the weight is upped by 117lbs., to 3600, the 1/4 mile time only jumps to a 14.1.
