W H Y ! ! !
People just want to have some fun and see what our cars can do. They want to race us because they know we'll win, and want to see us do so. It's not all in the win...If I saw a Viper on the street I would give it a go for sure. Keep in mind that our cars have a ****load of power stock, and its not going to be an everyday thing that someone will actually be able to take us. Also, I've noticed that alot of people with really fast cars don't like racing them (or refrain from doing so because they know they will win) and the ones with the beat up cars are the ones that actually want to race.
I live in the juvenile pimple faced rice capital of the world. Yes, they honk and they rev thier oversized lawnblower engines at me all the time. I look, I laugh, I watch them take off in traffic like little pinheads. They usually weave in and out of traffic and think they are cool. I don't give them the time of day, they don't deserve it. Now, if another muscle car pulls up next to me, that's a different story.
At least the little ricer kids on my street respect me, and they have crowned me "King of the Neighborhood" without even me asking, LOL! I'll never forget the days immediately after I brought my Cobra home from the dealership ... If they even saw me out front, they'd bring over yet another one of their little ricer friends to ask if I could show them my car. It was so funny every time I popped the hood open, and they got a good look at that real American V8 engine with that big ol' Eaton supercharger on top of it. With eyes wide open, they were all grins when I'd fire her up and give her a nice big rev.
And all they could say was "Wow!" or "Ahhh, man!" or "Daaaaang!" LOL!!!

I may get some funny posts on this one but can some one PLEASE tell me why, would you try to race a car against a Mustang GT( that buy the way sounds mean as hell on the road )when you know you have no chance in hell beating it. I can't remember all of them but I have been provoked by so many ricers it's not funny. Some examples are 2004+ altima 3.5, 1990something eclipse, Nissan sentra unknown year, some yellow thing that sounded like a cross between a dirtbike and a lawn mower, and a new charger with the BIG 3.5 HO v6 as labled on the car. I just find it funny that nobody with a comp. vehicle has approached yet. I am not looking for a race but never turn down an invatation. I was thinking that maybe my White GT just looks slow or I live around a bunch of morons.[sm=dontgetit.gif]

I know of a few mid-late 90s eclipses in the houston area (i know the owner of 1 of them) who run in the 12.2-13.4 range for the 1/4 mile. Just because a car doesn't look like much, don't take everyone for granted. There are a lot of people out there who don't think much of the new style mustang GTs and actually believe they have a chance. The rest probably just want to see what the car can do.
Lol... I get some of the strangest cars to challenge me (on the street)... even though theyre few and far between... Ive had a minivan try to race me, an ancient cadillac, a new mazda 3 or 6 or whatever they are, a few hondas and thats about it. Ive only really had 1 good competitor and that was a new charger srt8. Funny story... last night I was on my way to dennys with a friend of mine and this beat up multi colored honda crx comes flying up next to me with his huge watermelon sized muffler hangin out the back and slows down to my speed. At this point were doing about 45 on a flat stretch of highway with no one around (its almost 3 am) and he is about 3 car lengths in front of me in the left lane... so a guy in the passenger seat sticks his head out the window and starts yelling some mess and then waves "goodbye"... at the same time his buddy slams on the gas and we hear the little honda start to whine like a weedeater. I turn and look at my friend and smile, then proceed to step on the gas. I smashed it roughly 3 seconds after the guy in the honda and at the time he had... probably somewhere close to 6 car lengths on me. Within a couple seconds I had rolled down the windows and me and my friend proceeded to give him a real wave "goodbye" as we both looked dead at the passenger when we flew by them. I overtook him before we even reached 80 and by 100 he was a good 15 car lengths back. I slowed down after that because I knew there was no use in slaughtering him any worse, but of course he kept "racing" me and eventually passed me. We thought it was kinda funny... and even more coincidental that he pulled into the dennys we were on our way to. We actually didnt end up going in because I was worried the guy might have some post-race rage and do a little number on my car.

A little arrogant of you, don't you think?
1) As Arwing pointed out, Mustang GT's are not that fast.
2) Illegal street racing generally requires at least 2 morons, not just one,
3) Quick operation of a manual trans requires some operator skill, and driving a mustang GT doesn't automatically mean that you have any. I've seen plenty of people choke when shifting.
4) If you "know" that your car will win the race, then who's dumber? The slower challenger or the supposedly superior car that accepts the challenger. It's not like you are racing for pinks....you are racing for a quick thrill....
5) If I had the chance to line up against a Z06, and I decided that I was going to be a member of the moron street racers club for the next few seconds, why wouldn't I give it a run? Sure I would lose unless Mr. Z06 loses his way to second gear (though he may only need first gear tobeat me). The slower car has less to lose than the faster one (again, in the street racer world).
