Why NOT to use Royal Purple in our s197s?

RE: Why NOT to use Royal Purple in our s197s?
Hi, I find the Motorcraft works quite well. Cheap oils get too thin when hot. One test I did on my last 95 Mustang 3.8 w/100,000 miles was to put in a different brand and the motor started ticking. I drained that crap out and put Motorcraft back in and no ticking. I don't want to offend anyone but it came in a yellow container. The main thing is to change every 3000 miles in my opinion with a quality filter. I know some people might argue this point wanting to push the limit but for the $35 bucks it costs every few monthsit's worth it. Have fun with your Mustang.

i've owned two 3.8's - one in a 89 thunderchicken and one in an 89 cougar. i used 10w-40 from the "yellow bottle" in both of them exclusively and never had a oil related problem as long as i owned them. (head gaskets and trannies dont count lol) i believe each one had around 200k when they were sold, never a tick.... never a knock.

I've been inside of an engine with 112,000 miles that looked beautiful on the inside. (My '99 V6. Always ran mobil 1)
Less than a month later, I got into the engine on my dad's '01 F-150 with about 70,000 miles. (always ran motorcraft)
The F150 looked like crap compared to the stang.
Mobil 1 for me, and K&N oil filters.

Autozone sells redline? I didn't know they could order it.
I've been using mobile 1 in my engine, RP in my diff. I went to autozone to see what 70w140 gear oil they had that was full synthetic and all they had was mobile 1 for $15 per quart! I went down the street and got RP for $10 per quart at Carquest.

Dont do this read the link I posted on my earlier thread. The engine has very tight clearance which a 40 weight cannot lubricate well. Redline is the strongest 20 weight available hands down. You can order it at any autozone stores if they dont have it in stock.

Any thoughts about using 0W-40 or 5W-40 for our Stangs ?? Heavy-duty trucks, etc. use these and go to 500,000-1 million+ miles without problems.

1. Most modern quality HDEO (including the ones approved by Cummins) now contain Moly (However not the type Cummins was worried about.).
2. The 4.6L 3V does not use a Flat Tappet Cam with High Valve Spring Pressures. Therefore the issues that occured with these type cams are immaterial.
3. As long as its under warranty use a quality name brand API SM/GF-4 5W-20. In Amsoils case this would only apply to the XL-7500 Line. As long as RP meets this requirement use it if you like it.
4. The MotorCraft 5W-20 is a very well formulated product for the 3000-7500 mi OCI that Ford is recommending (Ford just increased the standard drain interval).
