2007 models slower than 2005/2006 mustangs
i read recently that the 2007 5spd GT does 13.9 in the 1/4, whereas the 2005/06 5spd GT does 13.5 stock (in my case, 13.4!). plus, 0-60 times are different too. 2007 does it in 5.3 seconds, 2005/06 does it in 4.9. the magazine said it was because of the increase in weight on the 07 model, plus the lower axle ratio (3.31 vs. 3.55). not to mention the magazine quoted Ford as saying they de-tuned the engine a little so that it is right around 300hp flywheel stock (rather than way over 300hp flywheel like the 05/06 models were) in order to increase gas mileage since the environmental nutcases made them re-rate the MPG.
so, bottom line, the 2007 GT stock is much slower than the 2006 GT stock, and even with the 3.55 axle ratio on the 2007 GT, it is still slower than a 2006 or 2005 model due to increased weight and a crappier tune.
damn, i am SO glad i got the 2006 instead of the 2007. plus, no gas guzzler tax!!!

1. The '07 is indeed very slightly heavier (I believe about 100 lbs.) because the front frame has been strengthend and the steering is improved.
Both the infamous passanger-side leak and the fuel-pump air bubble problems have been resolved too, so I'm extremely happy to trade just .4 (four tenths of one second- which is HARDLY "much slower"!) in 1/4 mile and 0 - 60 time for those improvements.
2. I test drove an '06 (and REALLY put it through it's paces!) before buying my '07, and I didn't notice ANY difference in performance whatsoever between the two.
In fact, the throttle-lag on the '06 was definitely worse than on mine!
As for the '07 having a stock "crappier tune"-- don't know if that's true or not, but I got the FRPP with 93 octane tune anyway, and all I can say is that my pony ROCKS Big Time!
As a matter of fact, ALL '05, '06, and '07 GT's should have one of the aftermarket tunes available out there because it really wakes these babies UP, so any difference (IF there is one to begin with) in the '06 or '07 stock tune shouldn't be important.
3. There is NO "GG" tax on the '07 GT's- ONLY on the Shelby GT-H and of course the Shelby 500.

'07 checking in.
I haven't driven the '05/'06 but, right off the lot, my '07 felt WAY better than my '01 didas far as power goes. So, that's cool.
Yeah, my '07 felt like it was de-tuned, especially in the lower RPM's. Right around 3000 RPM it definately woke up though. Maybe detuned in lower RPM's for around town fuel economy?
As far as weight goes I've also read somewhere that Ford stiffened-up the chassis; probably did add more weight but it feels very solid.
I got mine with the 3.55's. It's too bad they made this an option because this ratio feels like it should be stock.
I received/installed my CAI & tune (Brenspeed) yesterday but had to baby it during the initial test drive because it was raining heavily and the freeway traffic was more like a freeway parking lot. I could tell right away though that the throttle response is immediate, I accelerated to my target speed much quicker, and I could still tell just by the way the engine behaved/felt when I was at ~3000 RPM but it's not as big a change as it was before. It's kind of weird: before the tune and cruising around town it was like "OK, I'm cruising around town in lower RPM's, everything's cool, play some music,..." but going into the freeway on-ramp I would down-shift into second (loop on-ramps around here) until I got through the loop, give it some gas and, right around 3000 RPM, it was like "Hang on man 'cause now I'm going to pull as hard as I can!" From what I felt yesterday during the little bit of my first test drive after the tune, the in-town drive just below 3000 RPM felt like "OK, I'm ready anytime you are for mashing the gas pedal" and right at 3000 RPM it felt like "I'm still ready for you to stomp the pedal but I'm going to act just a little different at 3000 RPM." So, the change in the behavior/feel between lower RPM's and ~3000RPM's is still there but the new feel of the lower RPM's is closer to the new feel of the upper RPM's.
Do the stock '05/'06's have this kind of attitude difference in the lower RPM's? TIA and sorry for the long-winded post.
