3k is high, take it back to the shop and I think there might be a throttle body TSB also or something like it maybe.

My car spikes to about 2k when started, and slowly idles down to 900 or so. It's done this since the day I got it. 3k seems a bit high, but I think the behavior in general is OK.

I have noticed something similar during the last couple of start ups. It starts up and as usual revs to about 2K. This happened when the car was new and with my two different tunes from different places. But lately, after start up it will start at 2K and then quickly rev up to 3K and hold there for about 5 sec and then quickly drop down to 1200 and drop to 800 when the engine is warmed up.
I was told that the S197 starts and revs high because it is burning off excess fuel that is in the cylinders and cats to reduce emissions. I have had some noticeable changes in weather in the last couple of days high 20s one day, high 40s the next, and teens the next. I just thought it was doing its emissions thing, but now you have me wondering that after 12K trouble free miles I may have a sticking throttle body?

err . . . nothing unless others can confirm that this is a real issue and that I need to spend the time to switch out the CAI and reset the stock tune and find time to take it in. If it keeps it up I will most likely do something. It doesn't happen every time though, just the last 2 out of 5 start ups.

I think you'll find that once warmer weather hits, you won't hit the revs on startup like you are now. This summer my car would start and idle at 1k immediately, before getting down to like 750 when warm. Sometimes this winter on warmer days it will only stay at 1.5-2.0 for 5 seconds; sometimes it will stay at 1.5 for 2-3 minutes if it's real cold.
