To me, Mustangs are a niche market. Keep the Mustang true for the enthusiasts.

...and Ford should worry about bread and butter models that appeal to the masses, a car for getting from point A to point B,(and look good doing it), to me, thats what brings home the $$$ for the company.
The Mustang is not still on the road after 40+ years because it caters tothe niche market (Shelby, SVT, Bullitt, GT/CS, Boss, and Mach 1 buyers). As long as the Mustang stays on the road, there will ALWAYS be enthusiasts out there to buy specialty Mustangs.

BUT, if Ford doesn't do more to make the base models more interesting and competitive in THEIR markets, the Mustang (and ultimately Ford) will suffer. Ford makes MUCH more money selling 50,000 V6's or 40,000 GT's at a $1000-$1500 net profit each rather than selling 4,000 SE modelsat a $3000-$4000 net profit each. And selling that many units of the base models helps keep unit cost down in the long run, and increase the profit margin. I made up the numbers, but you get the point.
